In 2024, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) reinforced its commitment as a Conservation University by implementing comprehensive initiatives to promote the responsible and efficient use of water resources across its campus. Through a combination of educational campaigns, institutional regulations, and collaborative community programs, UNNES sought to cultivate sustainable water management practices within all academic and administrative units.
As part of the World Water Day 2024 commemoration, the university conducted a range of awareness activities aimed at enhancing understanding of clean and sustainable water utilization. The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA) organized a campus-based water quality monitoring program, designed to encourage data-informed decision-making for water conservation improvement.
In parallel, UNNES enhanced its infrastructure-based conservation systems, including the optimization of rainwater harvesting installations, ablution water recycling mechanisms, and treated water facilities, thereby reducing dependence on groundwater sources and minimizing overall consumption.
Furthermore, the H-BAT Green Campus Competition inspired faculties and departments to design innovative, measurable water-saving strategies while nurturing a campus culture of environmental awareness and collective responsibility. This initiative effectively encouraged each academic unit to engage in continuous improvement of resource management practices.
These collective efforts were formally governed under Rector’s Regulation No. 109/2024 on Water Conservation Governance, which establishes the university’s framework for planning, implementing, and monitoring sustainable water usage policies. The regulation, along with related national environmental directives, serves as documented legal evidence supporting the university’s structured approach to water conservation.

Through these integrated measures, UNNES continues to demonstrate its institutional dedication to sustainability, accountability, and environmental stewardship, embedding wise water management practices into both academic activities and daily campus operations.
