Semarang, August 21st — Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has officially established the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) Committee as part of its ongoing commitment to building an inclusive, equitable, and respectful academic environment. The committee operates under the coordination of the UNNES Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Center and reports directly to the university leadership, ensuring strategic oversight and alignment with institutional priorities.
The EDI Committee is mandated to advise on and implement university-wide policies, programs, and training initiatives related to diversity, equity, inclusion, and human rights. Through this structure, the committee ensures that diversity principles are embedded across all academic and administrative functions.
“Through the EDI Committee, UNNES reaffirms its dedication to creating an academic community that celebrates diversity, promotes fairness, and safeguards the rights of all individuals,” said the UNNES Rector.

The establishment of the EDI Committee builds upon UNNES’s consistent efforts to promote gender equality and social inclusion. Recently, UNNES collaborated with Solidaritas Perempuan Flobamoratas in a joint research initiative examining the cultural practice of belis (bride price) in East Nusa Tenggara. The study aims to advocate for women’s empowerment and contribute to reducing gender-based violence through culturally sensitive dialogue and community education.
In addition, through its recurring public forum “Sarasehan Selasa Legen”, UNNES has provided a platform for academics, students, and community leaders to engage in open discussions on gender equality and sustainable social development. The event has become a hallmark of UNNES’s commitment to bridging academic research with real-world social transformation.

Complementing these efforts, the Community Service Team of the Faculty of Law at Semarang State University is improving Family Welfare through Gender Equality in Boja Village. These public engagement activities amplify the voices of young scholars and activists, strengthening awareness about the importance of inclusion and respect for women’s rights in higher education and society.
