Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) continues to reinforce its sustainability agenda through comprehensive energy reviews aimed at identifying areas with the highest energy wastage across campus facilities. These periodic reviews are part of the university’s broader commitment to energy efficiency and carbon management as mandated in the Rector’s Decree No. B/3669/UN37/HK.02/2024 on Carbon Neutral Commitment 2045, particularly Article 2 (b) and (c), which emphasize UNNES’s pledge to improve energy efficiency, utilize renewable and sustainable energy, and monitor energy use as a strategy to reduce emissions.
Through the Conservation Office, UNNES regularly evaluates energy consumption data collected from its digital monitoring systems installed in 14 solar-powered buildings (including the Rectorate, Library, IT Center, and faculty buildings). The reviews analyze trends in electricity usage, lighting efficiency, and air-conditioning operations to detect potential energy losses and implement corrective measures. These include the replacement of conventional lighting with high-efficiency LEDs, optimization of air-conditioning schedules, and the integration of smart sensors to automatically regulate building energy use.

The 2024 energy review identified laboratories and office buildings as the highest energy consumers. As a follow-up, the university implemented staff training on energy-saving behavior and operational adjustments to reduce idle power consumption. This continuous review cycle ensures that energy-saving measures are evidence-based and data-driven.

By aligning the results of its energy audits with the directives in Rector’s Decree No. B/3669/UN37/HK.02/2024, UNNES demonstrates that it not only reviews and monitors energy performance systematically, but also embeds energy efficiency and renewable integration as core strategies in achieving its 2045 carbon-neutral vision.
