The Family Welfare Education Study Program, Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) successfully held Gelar Karya 2025 under the theme “Shaping the Future of Global Creativity”, on Wednesday (5/28) at the Prof. Wuryanto Auditorium, UNNES.
The event was attended by the Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, M.Sc., accompanied by university leadership, the Secretary of the Mayor of Semarang, the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., as well as lecturers, students, and their parents.
As a compulsory course in the Family Welfare Education Study Group, Gelar Karya is held annually and serves as a graduation requirement. It involves four study programs: Family Welfare Education, Culinary Arts Education, Beauty Arts Education, and Fashion Arts Education.
In his address, the Rector of UNNES emphasized the potential of Gelar Karya to serve as a substitute for the undergraduate thesis. He suggested that students submit their works in a manuscript format that meets academic standards.
“This initiative is expected to accelerate the study period and enable students to graduate on time, within eight semesters,” he stated.
He also underscored the relevance of Gelar Karya to the community, aligning with the KEMENDIKBUDRISTEK Impactful Program (BERDAMPAK). Furthermore, the Rector noted that the initiative reflects UNNES’ commitment to achieving its vision as a World-Reputed University by showcasing students’ creative works to a broader, even global, audience.
Dean of the Faculty of Engineering, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., described Gelar Karya as the culmination of students’ academic and creative journeys.
“This exhibition reflects their best achievements and collaborative efforts. Its success is supported by community involvement, including partnerships and sponsorships,” he said.
The Dean also expressed optimism that future events could involve international collaborations to further strengthen UNNES’ global reputation.
Gelar Karya aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 4 (Quality Education) and SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure). It encourages students to develop innovative and creative thinking, equipping them with essential soft skills for the workforce. Moreover, it promotes sustainable industrial development, job creation, and inclusive innovation with social and environmental considerations.
Through this event, UNNES reaffirms its commitment to quality education, creativity, and global collaboration, key elements in building a world-class university.
