The Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology, Nadiem Makarim, issued Regulation No. 30 of 2021 on preventing and Handling Sexual Violence in Higher Education Institutions.
In response, the Rector of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Prof. Fathur Rokhman, held a public review of the UNNES Rector’s Draft Regulation on the prevention and handling of sexual violence at Universitas Negeri Semarang on Monday, November 8.
The review session included participation from UNNES’s Vice-Rectors, Deans, Heads of Institutions, faculty members, the Student Executive Board (BEM), and student representatives, who provided feedback on the draft regulation.
Prof. Dr. Fathur stated that as a higher education institution, UNNES is committed to supporting the Ministry’s policy to build strong character among faculty, staff, and students.
“During a recent closed meeting with university leaders in late October, Minister Nadiem Makarim emphasized that higher education institutions should serve as ideal models of knowledge and ethical standards for society. Therefore, universities must provide a safe and violence-free learning environment. UNNES is responding promptly to Regulation No. 30 of 2021 issued by Minister Nadiem Makarim. As a show of support, UNNES is conducting a public review of the Rector’s Draft Regulation on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence at UNNES,” Prof. Fathur explained.
Prof. Fathur further noted that the Rector’s Draft Regulation is intended for students, faculty, educational staff, campus residents, and members of the public who interact with students, faculty, and staff in the context of UNNES’s Tridharma and campus governance.
“UNNES is at the forefront of upholding norms and values, with a strong commitment to addressing sexual violence on campus, ensuring a comfortable and safe academic environment that allows students to thrive and achieve excellence,” Prof. Fathur stated.
The Rector also appreciated BEM KM UNNES’s role in initiating the regulation on preventing and handling sexual violence within higher education institutions.
“I am proud of and grateful to BEM KM UNNES for initiating the regulation on preventing and handling sexual violence on our campus,” Prof. Fathur concluded.
