The Rector of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) inaugurated the Traditional Arts Festival and FBS Gempita as part of the Language and Arts Month (BBS) events organized by the Faculty of Language and Arts (FBS) in 2022.
Prof. Fathur expressed his appreciation for the chosen theme of Language and Arts Month, “UNNES Smart in Language and Arts for Golden Indonesia.”
Prof. Fathur explained that this overarching theme carries strategic messages and meanings for FBS, UNNES, Indonesia, and the world.
He stated that the organization of this event is evidence that creativity and productivity in language and arts continue to flourish, enhancing UNNES’s reputation.
“The Indonesian nation possesses unique arts, culture, and languages compared to other nations. The culture that forms the foundation of Indonesian civilization has emerged from a long history through the evolution of time. Therefore, preserving Indonesian culture to thrive amidst the diverse interactions of global cultures presents a distinct challenge for Indonesia,” said Prof. Fathur.
Prof. Fathur further emphasized that as a higher education institution with a Faculty of Language and Arts, UNNES must develop policies and concrete, sustainable steps that involve partnerships with the education sector, the industry, businesses, other universities, society, and art enthusiasts or practitioners.
“I hope this event can proceed smoothly and successfully, providing benefits to the arts community and Indonesian society,” he remarked.
The event commenced in the morning with a collective dance in front of the FBS Dean’s Office, followed by a cultural parade.
Simultaneously, the UNNES Rector also visited an art exhibition featuring artists from various countries.
The Dean of FBS UNNES, Dr. Sri Rejeki Urip MHum, stated that the activities will continue until November. The events include cultural art stages, an international conference, book discussions, a national seminar on fine arts, and various competitions.
