The Rector of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Prof. Dr. Fathur Rokhman, M.Hum., inaugurated the Safe House (Rumah Aman) for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence (PPKS) as part of the university’s efforts to protect victims of sexual violence, including faculty, staff, and students.
Prof. Fathur highlighted that the establishment of the PPKS Safe House signifies UNNES’s commitment to supporting survivors of violence, particularly within its campus community.
“Reducing sexual violence is one of the top priorities outlined by President Joko Widodo, which must be addressed. Additionally, this initiative reflects UNNES’s prompt response to Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Nadiem Makarim’s issuance of Ministry Regulation No. 30 of 2021 on the prevention and handling of sexual violence,” said the Rector during the inauguration at the Rumah Ilmu Building on Monday, August 15.
Prof. Fathur expressed his vision of creating a campus climate free from sexual violence, supported by a Rector’s regulation on the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence at UNNES.
“The university is at the forefront of fostering a gender-responsive educational environment and advocating for the prevention of violence in any form,” he emphasized.
Prof. Fathur further asserted that all forms of violence must be eradicated, as they infringe upon human dignity.
“I hope the establishment of this Safe House for the Prevention and Handling of Sexual Violence at UNNES will make our beloved campus a violence-free academic environment, where students, faculty, and staff can feel safe and secure,” he affirmed.
Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., Chair of the PPKS Task Force Selection Committee, explained that the primary duty of the PPKS Safe House is to ensure that victims of violence receive the best possible support for recovery and justice.
“This is a crucial mission for the UNNES PPKS Safe House. I hope that the presence of the Safe House will serve the best interests of victims and inspire similar initiatives in other regions,” he stated.
Previously, UNNES held a public selection process for the Sexual Violence Prevention and Handling Task Force on campus. Nine Task Force members were selected, comprising faculty, staff, and students, to support the initiative.
