UNNES Psychology – Psychology students at Universitas Negeri Semarang had the opportunity to broaden their horizons through a public lecture webinar entitled “Beyond The Classroom: Effective Strategies for Transfer of Training in the Workplace.” This activity was organized to facilitate broader learning for students in the Human Resource Development (HRD) course.
The webinar featured Agung Alamsyah, S. Pd., M. Pd., as a speaker who shared his insights on human resource development. Meanwhile, Azka Fauziah, a psychology student at UNNES, acted as the moderator who helped guide the event. The event was held online via the Zoom platform on Thursday, April 10, 2025, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM WIB. Psychology students also participated in the webinar and actively engaged in both the presentation session and the discussion.
Agung Alamsyah emphasized in his presentation that successful transfer does not depend only on the quality of training. Participants need to be able to apply their knowledge, supported by their work environment and organization. In addition, he emphasized the importance of personal responsibility, self-management, and the organization’s role in creating a supportive work environment.
“A good training design includes clear objectives, active participant involvement, simulations and practical exercises, as well as post-training follow-up,” said Agung during his presentation.
Agung introduced three essential theories in training transfer: the identical elements theory, which emphasizes contextual similarity; the generalization theory, which emphasizes general principles; and the cognitive theory, which emphasizes the process of managing the participants’ information.
One participant shared an interesting impression during the lecture, “It was beneficial. This lecture gave us, as psychology students, insight into the importance of transfer of training and could serve as a foundation for the future; who knows, maybe some of us will become trainers. Personally, I also gained a better understanding that training isn’t just about completing a program or not, but also about how the knowledge can be applied in real life. Overall, it was great and very beneficial!” said Tiara Salsabilla.
This webinar will equip students with a strategic understanding of transfer of training in the workplace and serve as initial preparation for entering the workforce in a professional and adaptive manner.
