Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has strengthened its commitment to supporting student reproductive health by providing educational and preventive health services on campus. This initiative aligns with research findings emphasizing the importance of accessible reproductive health services for university students.
A study published in the Unnes Journal of Public Health revealed that many students consider adolescent reproductive health services essential to be provided within the university environment.
According to the research, students’ access to such services is influenced by various perceptions, such as perceived vulnerability to sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unwanted pregnancies (UPs), perceived seriousness of STI and UP consequences, perceived benefits of reproductive health services, and the barriers they face when accessing them on campus.
The study further recommended that universities establish and develop adolescent reproductive health centers offering information, education, therapy, and psychosocial support based on Friendly Health Services—approaches that are student-centered, accessible, and nonjudgmental.
UNNES Health Service Center (PUSLAKES)
In response to this, in 2024 UNNES issued Circular Letter Number B/28619/UN37/KM.01.02/2024 concerning the UNNES Health Service Center (Puslakes) as a Primary Clinic Providing Reproductive Health Services within UNNES. Through this policy, Puslakes UNNES serves as a primary facility offering promotive, preventive, consultation, examination, and education on reproductive health services for students in a professional and integrated manner. Puslakes services are fee-based with affordable costs and accept various types of insurance, including BPJS Kesehatan. This service center operates every working day from 08.00–16.00 WIB, so students can easily access their various health needs.
UseCC: UNNES Students Actively Educate on Reproductive Health
Beyond clinical services, UNNES also empowers students to take part in peer-based education by strengthening the role of the UNNES Sex Care Community (UseCC), a student organization dedicated to promoting reproductive health awareness among peers. UseCC actively organizes educational activities such as public discussions, social media campaigns, and peer educator training.
One of UseCC’s social activities is the One Pad One CaRE campaign which was held on May 15-17, 2025. This program is a form of concern for fellow women by providing essential care items, such as sanitary pads has been implemented in all faculties. Its core mission was to promote health, hygiene, and well being through a focused and dedicated outreach program.

UseCC also organized the 2024 Talkshow About Reproductive Health (TAKRO) on September 28, 2024, with the theme Breaking the Silence: Empowering to Speak Out Against HIV/AIDS. This event, attended by around 50 students, featured speakers Dr. Anik Setyo W., M.Kes. (Manager of Puslakes UNNES) and Widodo from the Kalandara NGO. The event aimed to raise student awareness of HIV/AIDS issues and encourage openness in discussing reproductive health.

The Rector of UNNES Prof. Dr. S Martono emphasized that this initiative reflects the university’s effort to foster a healthy, safe, and inclusive campus environment. “Reproductive health is not merely a medical issue; it is part of character education and student well-being. UNNES is committed to ensuring that every student has access to accurate and responsible information and services,” the Rector said.
Through these initiatives, UNNES aims to build collective awareness and healthy behavior among students—reflecting its vision as a conservation-minded and civilized university.
