From September 16–19, 2025, a research team from Semarang State University (UNNES), led by Prof. Dr. Zaenuri, M.Sc., Akt. (Vice Rector for Academic and Student Affairs), along with Arif Widiyatmoko, Ph.D. in Ed. (FMIPA UNNES) and Farid Ahmadi, Ph.D. (FIPP UNNES), conducted an academic visit to Central China Normal University (CCNU), China. CCNU was represented by Professor Wang Weijun (Deputy Executive Director of the Main Experimental Lab for Psychology and Online Behavior of Adolescents and Education), Professor Hong Jianzhong, as well as other lecturers and students.
The visit aimed to explore opportunities for international collaboration, particularly in the field of “AI + Psychology and Education.” The event began with remarks from the host, who presented the scientific strengths, research achievements, and flagship programs of CCNU. Prof. Zaenuri then introduced the history, programs, and development direction of UNNES, while emphasizing the importance of strengthening cross-university collaboration.
In-depth discussions focused on key issues such as faculty and student exchanges, joint research on the application of artificial intelligence in education, ethical considerations in the use of AI in academic settings, and strategies for utilizing AI tools to support diverse learning needs. Three main areas of collaboration were agreed upon: the development of an AI literacy system for prospective teachers, the integration of ICT in science learning, and the implementation of an AI-based learning analytics system.
As part of the activities, the delegation visited CCNU’s psychology laboratory, brain imaging center, and other key research facilities, gaining valuable insights into potential collaborations and shared resource utilization.
This initiative directly supports the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, as it promotes innovation in teacher preparation, enhances the use of technology for inclusive learning, and strengthens international academic cooperation. By integrating AI with education and psychology, the collaboration aims to improve learning quality and provide equal access to educational opportunities.
As a result of the meeting, both institutions reached a preliminary agreement to establish a platform for sharing academic resources, prioritize online joint research, and develop distance learning exchanges. This visit thus marks the first step toward establishing a long-term research partnership expected to drive innovation in AI, psychology, and education, while also contributing to the advancement of global quality education.
