The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), through the Department of Religion and Belief under the Student Executive Board (BEM), successfully organized an Interfaith Dialogue themed “Character Education Based on Religious Values within the Framework of Pluralism”. The event took place on Wednesday, May 28, at the 3rd Floor Auditorium of Building C7, FISIP UNNES.
This initiative aimed to reinforce values of tolerance and cultivate an inclusive character among students, rooted in the spirit of pluralism and mutual respect.
The event was officially opened by the Vice Dean for Planning and Resources of FISIP UNNES, Prof. Dr. Heri Tjahjono, M.Si., marked by the symbolic striking of the gong. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of interfaith dialogue as a strategic effort to foster a peaceful and harmonious academic environment.
The dialogue featured four distinguished speakers from diverse religious backgrounds who shared valuable insights on character education and diversity: I Nengah Wirta Darmayana, S.H., M.H. – Representative of the Parisada Hindu Dharma Indonesia (PHDI), Dr. H. Multazam, M.Pd. – Figure from the Forum for Religious Harmony (FKUB), Ev. Oktafianus Nanda Apafrodhitus, S.Hum. – Chair of History Maker, Stanley Khu, S.Ant., M.A. – Buddhist Religious Leader
The session was moderated by Nadia, the 2025 Outstanding Student of FISIP UNNES, who facilitated the discussion in a dynamic and engaging manner.
Throughout the dialogue, the speakers underscored the significance of internalizing religious values in shaping students’ character to become more tolerant, respectful, and committed to religious moderation within both academic and societal contexts.
Erisandi Arditama, S.I.P., M.A., lecturer and advisor to BEM FISIP UNNES, affirmed that this initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to promoting national insight and strengthening universal humanistic values among students.
Moreover, this activity aligns with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 16, to Promote peaceful and inclusive societies for sustainable development.
Through this dialogue, FISIP UNNES students are expected to emerge as peacebuilders, actively advocating for diversity, inclusivity, and tolerance in Indonesia’s multicultural society.
