Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has been ranked 9th among Higher Education Institutions in the world for disability-friendly practices according to UNESA-DIMETRIC (Disability Inclusion Metrics) 2022. This ranking was participated by 125 universities worldwide.
UNESA officially announced this ranking in a hybrid event at the 11th floor Auditorium, Rectorate Building, Lidah Wetan Campus, Surabaya, on Thursday, December 8th, 2022.
UNNES Rector, Prof. Dr. S Martono MSi, expressed his appreciation for UNNES’ achievement in securing the 9th global ranking and 5th national ranking as a disability-friendly campus, according to UNESA-Dometric.
According to Prof. Martono, this achievement will further motivate UNNES to develop a disability-friendly campus environment.
“UNNES is committed to continuously creating a campus environment that is friendly for people with disabilities,” said the Rector of UNNES.
Prof. Martono explained that UNNES had accepted disabled students and continues to strive to provide facilities and infrastructure that are safe and comfortable for people with disabilities.
“UNNES is open to anyone who wants to study. UNNES also ensures that disabled students can attend classes comfortably,” he added.
UNESA-DIMETRIC is the world’s first ranking for disability-friendly campuses. Its goal is to create a friendly educational environment for people with disabilities.
Furthermore, it also aims to facilitate the creation of innovative programs and the exchange of ideas in support of sustainable, equitable, accountable, and responsible education.
Ten indicators are used in the assessment, including leadership, strategic planning, particular inclusion policies, institutional capacity, disability organization collaboration, infrastructure, suitable accommodations, students and staff, and education and community engagement research.
