Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), as a Conservation University, continues to strengthen its role in environmental stewardship by actively supporting programs and incentives that promote sustainable aquatic ecosystem management. Through community engagement, training, and recognition initiatives, UNNES empowers local leaders and innovators to contribute to conservation and sustainability goals.
Local Heroes Capacity Building Programs

UNNES organizes Local Heroes Capacity Building Programs, inviting community leaders from Semarang and surrounding regions to participate in training sessions both on campus and in external venues. These programs provide knowledge and practical skills on water management, pollution prevention, and ecosystem restoration, ensuring that local champions are equipped to lead conservation efforts in their communities.
Annual Innovation Award
To further encourage innovation, UNNES hosts the Innovation Award annually. This award recognizes and supports creative solutions from local heroes that contribute to a green campus and sustainable community practices. Award-winning projects often focus on:
- Water management innovations that improve efficiency and conservation
- Pollution reduction strategies that minimize environmental impact
- Ecosystem restoration initiatives that rehabilitate degraded aquatic and terrestrial habitats
By celebrating these contributions, UNNES fosters a culture of innovation and sustainability that extends beyond the university into the wider community.
Institutional Support and Incentives
These initiatives are supported by UNNES’s Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LPPM), which provides technical guidance, research incentives, and publication support for projects aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Documents such as the Panduan Teknis Riset EQUITY & Insentif Publikasi outline frameworks for research excellence, community service, and conservation-based innovation.
