The Master’s Program in English Education at the Faculty of Languages and Arts, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FBS UNNES), held a community service program entitled “Enhancing Digital Literacy of English Teachers through the Use of Artificial Intelligence Technology for Effective Teaching” on Tuesday, April 27, 2025 , at SMA Negeri 1 Blora.

The initiative was launched as an effort to improve digital and artificial intelligence (AI) literacy among teachers who are members of the English Subject Teachers’ Forum (MGMP) for senior high schools in Blora Regency. The program was delivered by a collaborative team of lecturers and graduate students from the Master’s Program in English Education at FBS UNNES, consisting of Dr. Sri Wahyuni, S.Pd., M.Pd.; Dr. Rini Susanti Wulandari, M.Hum.; Dr. Fahrur Rozi, S.Pd., M.Pd., Ph.D.; Thohiriyah, S.S., M.Hum.; along with Nadya Zulfa C., Anggih Restu A., and Fani Hindun Muawanah.

The training was conducted through a series of interactive presentations and hands-on sessions focusing on the integration of AI technology in English language teaching. Participants were introduced to current AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude AI, and Gamma App, which can be utilized for lesson planning, material development, and enhancing student engagement.

Beyond highlighting the benefits, the training also addressed ethical considerations and opportunities associated with the use of AI in educational contexts. Participants showed strong enthusiasm in exploring and experimenting with new technologies to enrich their teaching practices.

This activity exemplifies the commitment of the English Education Master’s Program at FBS UNNES to support digital transformation in the education sector, particularly for educators in rural areas. Moreover, the initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) number 4 on quality education and number 9 on industry, innovation, and infrastructure.

Through this program, UNNES continues to strengthen its role as a conservation minded university that generates meaningful impact and remains responsive to technological developments for the advancement of national education.
