Semarang, May 7, 2025 – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Negeri Semarang (FEB UNNES), has reaffirmed its commitment to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) through active participation in the Sambut Thudong Indonesia 2025 event. This initiative represents FEB UNNES’s tangible support for the spiritual journey of Thudong monks in Semarang, serving as a real-world implementation of SDG 16: Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions.
Eli Dwi Astuti, S.Si., an academic staff member at FEB UNNES, was officially appointed to accompany a series of ceremonial events, beginning at the Tai Kak Sie Gang Lombok Temple and culminating at the Semarang Regency Hall. This involvement not only fosters interfaith harmony but also symbolizes the essential role of intercultural dialogue in cultivating a peaceful and cohesive society.
Synergy for a More Inclusive Society
The Dean of FEB UNNES emphasized that this initiative aligns with the faculty’s overarching vision. As an academic institution, FEB is committed not only to academic excellence but also to character development grounded in the values of tolerance and respect for diversity. This initiative exemplifies FEB’s contribution to building a society that is just, peaceful, and inclusive.
The Sambut Thudong tradition is a spiritual journey that promotes self-reflection and a sense of brotherhood. Through its involvement, FEB UNNES strengthens the role of higher education in advancing peace and social justice—two fundamental pillars of SDG 16.
Sustained Commitment
FEB UNNES has consistently engaged in a wide range of SDG-aligned initiatives, including inclusive entrepreneurship programs and environmental sustainability campaigns. Looking ahead, the faculty plans to broaden its collaboration with both local and national stakeholders to further advocate for diversity, inclusion, and peacebuilding. FEB UNNES remains committed to being a catalyst for meaningful change—through modest efforts such as this mentoring activity, as well as through broader, strategic programs.
