In an effort to strengthen the quality of English language teaching in Central Java, the Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) of Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) joined hands with TEFLIN Jawa Tengah to hold the TEFLIN Deep Learning Training and Workshop for English Teachers of Central Java. This program, aligned with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s policy, aimed to equip teachers with innovative and reflective teaching strategies through the application of the Deep Learning approach.
The event reached over 100 English teachers from various educational institutions across Central Java, spanning different districts and cities. Held on two consecutive Saturdays, 26 July and 2 August 2025, the sessions took place at SMA Negeri 1 Semarang.
A number of FBS UNNES lecturers served as key speakers, including Prof. Dr. Issy Yuliasri, M.Pd., Alief Noor Farida, M.Pd., and Christianti Tri Hapsari, M.Pd., alongside other distinguished speakers, Dr. Muhammad Rifqi, M.Pd., Dr. Nur Zaida, M.Pd., and Fauziah Ratna Hapsari, M.Pd.
Throughout the program, participants engaged in practical training on how to design and implement the Deep Learning approach in teaching the four core language skills: reading, listening, speaking, and writing. Each session combined demonstrations, collaborative activities, and reflective discussions, enabling teachers to adapt the approach to their own classrooms.
According to Prof. Dr. Issy Yuliasri, M.Pd., Chairperson of TEFLIN Jawa Tengah and a lecturer in the English Education Master’s Program at FBS UNNES, the workshop was a concrete step toward building a more effective and engaging English learning environment. “We hope teachers will become more innovative in their methods, helping students not just to learn, but to think critically and creatively,” she said.
Through this collaboration, TEFLIN Jawa Tengah and FBS UNNES reaffirmed their commitment to supporting English teachers in Central Java in creating impactful, student-centered learning experiences.
