The activity was attended by English teachers from junior high schools (SMP) across Semarang Regency. It aimed to equip educators with the skills to design and implement multimodal teaching materials. This pedagogical approach integrates visual, verbal, auditory, and gestural modes to create a more engaging and meaningful learning experience for today’s learners.

Four lecturers from FBS UNNES served as expert speakers in the workshop: Dr. Novia Trisanti, S.Pd., M.Pd., who presented strategies for integrating multimodality into lesson planning, Henrikus Joko Y., S.S., M.Hum., Ph.D., who discussed the use of poetry as a form of verbal and gestural expression.

Meanwhile, Daud Jiwandono, S.Pd., M.A., M.Pd., who explored the application of technology to develop visual and audio-based teaching materials, and Almira Irwaniyanti, U., S.Hum., M.Li., who addressed approaches to teaching various genres of texts.

Participants were encouraged to reflect on their classroom practices and explore how multimodal literacy can be adopted as an innovative strategy to enhance students’ comprehension, creativity, and critical thinking in English language learning.

This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4: Quality Education, which advocates for inclusive and equitable education and the promotion of lifelong learning opportunities for all.

Through this activity, FBS UNNES reaffirms its active role in fostering educational innovation and teacher professional development, while strengthening the university’s tangible contributions to advancing education in Indonesia.
