In an effort to cultivate strong character and ethical values in sports, the Faculty of Sports Science (FIK) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) held an inspiring workshop titled “Strategies for Implementing Olympic Values through Sports” on October 10, 2025. The event was attended by enthusiastic postgraduate students (Master’s and Doctoral programs) in Physical Education who aimed to deepen their understanding of how the noble ideals of the Olympic movement can be applied both in sports and in everyday life.
The workshop featured Assoc. Prof. Dr. Koh Koon Teck from the National Institute of Education, Nanyang Technological University (NIE NTU), Singapore, a distinguished scholar who passionately shared insights and effective strategies for instilling Olympic values such as friendship, excellence, and respect through sports-based learning and practice. Through interactive sessions and in-depth discussions, participants gained a more comprehensive understanding of how these values serve as a foundation for character building and ethical conduct in the field of sports.
This academic initiative aims to encourage postgraduate students of the Faculty of Sports Science at UNNES to internalize and implement Olympic values in various aspects of their personal lives and future professional careers. Furthermore, it strengthens their contribution to the development of ethical, culturally grounded, and inclusive sports practices.
The workshop is closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly:
- SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, by promoting physical and mental health through sports participation and the adoption of healthy lifestyles.
- SDG 4: Quality Education, by providing a transformative learning experience that integrates moral, cultural, and ethical dimensions into sports education.
Through this initiative, FIK UNNES reaffirms its commitment to developing not only skilled athletes and educators but also future leaders who embody the spirit of Olympism — striving for excellence, fostering mutual respect, and promoting peace through sports.
