Doctoral students of the Language Education Program Faculty of Languages and Arts Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) successfully organized a Virtual Workshop Series under the theme of SDG 4 (Quality Education): Pedagogical and Digital Innovation in Language Instruction, emphasizing innovation in language and literature learning.
As one of Indonesia’s leading universities, Universitas Negeri Semarang continues to contribute to society through various academic and educational initiatives. In line with its commitment to preparing graduates with strong pedagogical knowledge and competencies, the doctoral students of English Language Education conducted a virtual workshop titled “Pedagogical and Digital Innovation in Language Instruction” on Tuesday, December 16, 2025.
The workshop officially opened with a welcoming remark by Prof. Puji Astuti, S.Pd, M.Pd, Ph.D., the course lecturer, followed by an opening address and symbolic inauguration by Widhiyanto, M.Pd, Ph.D., as the Coordinator of the Doctoral Program in Language Education.
This activity was a part of the Final Semester Assignment for the Curriculum and Innovation in Language and Literature course. The workshop attracted 148 participants, including undergraduate students in education and language studies, teachers, and education practitioners from various institutions such as Universitas Negeri Semarang, Universitas Harkat Negeri, Universitas HKBP Nommensen, as well as the Master’s students of English Language Education UNNES, and other higher education institutions across Indonesia. The event was conducted smoothly via the Zoom platform, enabling broader participation from different regions and ensuring inclusive access to learning opportunities related to curriculum development and innovation in language education.
Featuring four SDG 4–oriented topics on Quality Education, the workshop involved eight doctoral student presenters who delivered the materials interactively. One of the highlights was the introduction of a website-based educational game platform, designed to equip prospective teachers with practical experience in integrating digital technology into classroom instruction. The presenters, who are also English language lecturers, included Iin Indrayanti, M.Pd.; Tri Eko Agustiningrum, M.Pd.; Asima Rohana Sinaga, M.Pd.; Christian Neni Purba, S.Pd., M.Hum.; Rudiarman Purba, M.Pd.; Mungkap Mangapul Siahaan, M.Pd.; David Berthony Manalu, M.Pd.; and David Togi Huatahean, M.Hum.
Throughout the workshop, participants actively engaged in discussions and activities until the end of the program. Despite being conducted virtually, the event received enthusiastic responses from participants. The workshop concluded with a closing statement from Dr. Sri Wahyuni, M.Pd., the course lecturer, who expressed her hope that the activity would provide meaningful benefits and serve as valuable preparation for future teachers to become innovative educators in support of Indonesia’s educational advancement.
