Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has reaffirmed its identity as a Conservation University by issuing Rector’s Regulation No. 127 of 2024 on the Guidelines for Green Campus Management. This regulation provides the official framework for managing a healthy, sustainable, and environmentally friendly campus.
Rector of UNNES, Prof. Dr. S. Martono, stated in the decree that the Green Campus policy reflects the university’s strong commitment to conservation, ecological balance, and community benefits. As a State University with Legal Entity (PTN-BH), UNNES carries significant responsibility in advancing sustainable development in higher education
The new regulation covers a wide range of environmental management aspects, including:
- Green spatial planning and infrastructure: preservation of green open spaces (RTH), energy efficiency, and environmentally friendly building management.
- Waste management: adoption of reduce, reuse, recycle principles, including proper processing of organic and inorganic waste.
- Energy and water conservation: efficient use of electricity, utilization of renewable energy sources, and sustainable water resource management.
- Sustainable transportation: promoting environmentally friendly transport such as mass transit systems, bicycles, and reducing motorized vehicles within campus areas.
- Environmental education and research: encouraging research, publications, and academic activities that address global environmental challenges.
The Green Campus program will be overseen by a conservation unit within UNNES. Its implementation will be monitored through an annual monitoring and evaluation system, involving both internal assessments and external reviews. These evaluations will measure green indicators, research achievements, and scientific publications related to sustainability.
With this regulation in place, UNNES reaffirms its role not only as an academic and research institution but also as a leader in environmental conservation. “Green Campus is not merely a slogan but a concrete policy direction and academic culture that will continue to be strengthened at UNNES,” said Rector Prof. Dr. S. Martono
