The Faculty of Engineering at Universitas Negeri Semarang (FT UNNES) successfully held a Quran recitation opening ceremony as part of the commemoration of UNNES’s 61st anniversary, while also presenting the 2026 JAMUS Scholarship to 20 selected students. This meaningful event took place on March 6, 2026, at the Salman Al-Farisi Mosque, located within the Faculty of Engineering complex.
The ceremony was attended by key figures of the faculty, including the Dean of FT UNNES, Prof. Dr. Wirawan Sumbodo, M.T., along with members of the faculty leadership. Also present was the Head of the Islamic Development Agency (BAI) UNNES, Dr. Moh. Solehatul Mustofa, M.A., who contributed to the spiritual atmosphere of the event. The gathering combined both religious reflection and social responsibility, emphasizing the importance of holistic development within the academic community.
The Quran recitation marked the beginning of a series of anniversary celebrations, symbolizing gratitude and reflection on the university’s journey over the past 61 years. At the same time, the awarding of the JAMUS Scholarship represented a tangible commitment by the Faculty of Engineering to support students, particularly those facing financial challenges in pursuing higher education.
The JAMUS Scholarship is specifically designed to assist students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring that financial limitations do not hinder their academic progress. By providing this support, FT UNNES not only helps ease the burden of educational expenses but also fosters equal access to quality education for all students.
This initiative aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly SDG 1 (No Poverty) and SDG 4 (Quality Education). Through programs like the JAMUS Scholarship, the Faculty of Engineering demonstrates its dedication to reducing economic disparities and promoting inclusive, equitable education within the university environment.
In his remarks, Prof. Wirawan Sumbodo highlighted the importance of solidarity and institutional responsibility in supporting students. He emphasized that education should be accessible to everyone, regardless of their financial background, and encouraged scholarship recipients to make the most of this opportunity to excel academically and contribute positively to society.
The scholarship recipients expressed their gratitude for the support, noting that the assistance would significantly help them focus on their studies without the constant concern of financial constraints. For many of them, this scholarship represents not only financial aid but also recognition and encouragement to continue striving toward their goals.
Beyond financial assistance, the JAMUS Scholarship is expected to inspire a strong sense of motivation and perseverance among students. It serves as a reminder that the university community stands behind them, supporting their journey toward becoming future engineers who can contribute to national and global development.
Through this program, FT UNNES continues to strengthen its role not only as an academic institution but also as a socially responsible entity that actively contributes to student welfare and sustainable development. It is hoped that the JAMUS Scholarship will continue to grow in the future, reaching more students and creating a lasting impact on the lives of young engineers.
Ultimately, this initiative reflects the spirit of UNNES’s anniversary celebration—combining gratitude, compassion, and a commitment to building a better future through education.
