In an effort to improve statistical understanding and literacy among university students, on May 19, 2026, a total of 29 students from the Diploma Program in Applied and Computational Statistics, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (FMIPA), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), participated in the SIGMA (Statistical Literacy for Students) program organized by the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) of Semarang City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This activity was conducted to support efforts in enhancing statistical literacy among academics. The program featured two speakers from BPS Semarang City, namely Siti Khotimatus Sa\u2019Adah Mawar Sari, S.ST., and Leila Husna, S.ST., both of whom are Expert Statisticians at BPS Semarang City specializing in data dissemination and the preparation of official statistical publications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The event was officially opened by the Head of BPS Semarang City, Rudi Cahyono, S.ST., M.Si., and was also attended by the Head of the Diploma Program in Applied and Computational Statistics, Dr. Putriaji Hendikawati, S.Si., M.Pd., M.Sc., along with the lecturer team, including Nur Achmey Selgi Harwanti, S.Stat., M.Stat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
During the activity, participants were introduced to various statistical data portals provided by BPS Semarang City as well as the central BPS office, all of which are accessible to students and the public for various purposes. The speakers also explained major indicators released by BPS, covering the processes of data collection, processing, and publication, which serve as essential references for the government in formulating policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In addition to serving as a field-learning method that can increase learning motivation and help students better understand the material through direct interaction with data sources, this activity also provided students with information regarding BPS publication data and methods of access that can be utilized for various purposes, including the preparation of final projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
This activity represents one of the implementations of the collaboration between the Diploma Program in Applied and Computational Statistics FMIPA UNNES and BPS Semarang City.
