Semarang \u2014 In a strategic move to elevate research quality and expand international networks, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), through its Institute for Research and Community Service (LPPM), hosted the first session of its Workshop Series \u2013 Strategy for Winning International Research Grant 2025<\/em> on Monday, July 28, 2025. Held at the Borobudur Room, 3rd Floor of the LPPM Building, the event focused on funding opportunities from the United Kingdom and effective strategies to secure competitive international research grants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop drew participation from 200 UNNES researchers and featured keynote speaker Assoc. Prof. Francesca Salvi from the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Nottingham, UK. The session was highly interactive, incorporating brainstorming activities, in-depth presentations, and dynamic Q&A discussions that reflected the participants\u2019 strong enthusiasm and engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This initiative was driven by the limited access and experience UNNES researchers have in obtaining international research funding, particularly from institutions in the UK. To address this gap, UNNES invited international partners to provide strategic insights into crafting competitive proposals and fostering cross-border research collaborations. Assoc. Prof. Salvi expressed her appreciation for the warm welcome and active participation, and affirmed her readiness to explore further collaborative opportunities between the University of Nottingham and UNNES in both research and education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The workshop aligns with UNNES\u2019s efforts to accelerate the achievement of Key Performance Indicators (IKU) 5 and 6, which focus on producing research outputs that benefit society and enhancing partnerships with world-class institutions. It also supports the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Goal 17: Partnerships for the Goals<\/em>, by opening pathways for global research-based partnerships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The impact of this event is expected to significantly enhance the capacity of UNNES researchers to access international research funding, generate innovations with tangible societal benefits, and strengthen UNNES\u2019s standing in both national and global academic rankings. As part of its sustainability plan, the workshop series will continue with Series II: KONEKSI Australia<\/em> and Series III: Horizon Euraxess \u2013 European Union<\/em>, alongside an intensive mentoring program to support faculty members in preparing international grant proposals.
