Pendidikan lingkungan tidak lagi cukup disampaikan secara satu arah, melainkan harus melibatkan secara aktif suara dan gagasan siswa. Hal ini menjadi temuan utama dalam riset terbaru yang dilakukan oleh dosen Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni (FBS) Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Zulfa Sakhiyya, Ph.D., bersama Rangga Kala Mahaswa dari Universitas Gadjah Mada dan Abdul Azis dari Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan dan Psikologi (FIPP) UNNES.

Penelitian yang dipublikasikan dalam jurnal Environmental Education Research yang diterima pada 30 Juni 2025 tersebut menegaskan bahwa pendidikan lingkungan akan lebih berdampak jika dikaitkan dengan kesadaran lokal, kegiatan ekstrakurikuler, dan pembentukan identitas pemuda sebagai agen perubahan.

“Suara siswa perlu diposisikan sebagai pusat dalam pembelajaran lingkungan. Ketika siswa melihat keterkaitan langsung antara materi pembelajaran dan isu lingkungan di komunitas mereka, empati dan kepedulian mereka akan tumbuh lebih kuat,” ungkap Zulfa Sakhiyya.

Penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa keterlibatan siswa dalam persoalan lingkungan lokal seperti pengelolaan limbah, pencemaran air, hingga bencana banjir dapat membentuk kepedulian yang lebih nyata. Selain itu, kegiatan ekstrakurikuler bertema lingkungan, seni, dan pertunjukan menjadi ruang strategis untuk menyalurkan ekspresi dan praktik kesadaran ekologis secara kreatif.

Lebih lanjut, Identitas siswa sebagai bagian dari generasi muda turut menjadi perhatian utama dalam penelitian ini. Ketika siswa diberdayakan untuk berbicara, berdiskusi, dan bertindak, mereka mengembangkan identitas sebagai agen perubahan lingkungan. Dengan identitas ini, siswa lebih mampu berkontribusi aktif dalam solusi nyata untuk permasalahan lingkungan di komunitasnya.

Penelitian ini sejalan dengan Tujuan Pembangunan Berkelanjutan (SDGs), khususnya Tujuan 4 tentang pendidikan berkualitas, Tujuan 13 tentang aksi perubahan iklim, dan Tujuan 11 tentang komunitas berkelanjutan. Pendidikan yang berpusat pada suara siswa lokal diyakini dapat membentuk generasi muda yang tidak hanya memahami isu lingkungan, tetapi juga mampu bertindak nyata.

Hasil penelitian ini diharapkan menjadi inspirasi bagi sekolah-sekolah di Indonesia untuk lebih mendengarkan suara siswa dalam merancang kurikulum pendidikan lingkungan, sehingga tercipta generasi yang peduli dan bertanggung jawab terhadap lingkungan di masa depan.
