15 Agustus 2025 – Tim Mahasiswa Fakultas Teknik UNNES yang terdiri dari Dimas Eka Firmansyah, Lorensius Bima Atmaja, dan Fadil Nur Hidayat bersama dosen pembimbing Muhammad Irfan Nuryanta, S.T., M.Eng. berhasil meraih Juara 1 Lomba bergengsi Kreativitas dan Inovasi (Krenova) 2025 yang diselenggarakan oleh Badan Riset dan Inovasi Daerah Kota Semarang pada 15 Agustus 2025.

Kompetisi ini merupakan ajang bergengsi yang mempertemukan para inovator dari berbagai daerah dan kategori untuk menampilkan ide kreatif dan inovatif yang bermanfaat bagi masyarakat.

Dalam kompetisi tahun ini, Tim Teknik Mesin UNNES mengusung inovasi berjudul “Pengembangan dan Penerapan Produk 3D Printing Menggunakan Filament Berbasis Recycled PET dengan Penguat Serat Alam”.

Inovasi ini merupakan teknologi pengolahan limbah plastik jenis PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate), seperti botol minuman bekas, menjadi filament 3D printing ramah lingkungan. Filament ini diperkuat dengan serat alam yang memiliki kekuatan mekanik baik sekaligus ramah terhadap lingkungan.

Teknologi ini dinilai mampu memberikan solusi nyata terhadap permasalahan lingkungan, khususnya pengurangan timbunan limbah plastik yang sulit terurai di alam.

Selain itu, pemanfaatan serat alam sebagai penguat dapat mengurangi ketergantungan pada serat sintetis, sehingga turut mendukung penghematan energi dan pengurangan emisi karbon.

Dalam jangka panjang, penerapan inovasi ini juga memiliki potensi ekonomi dan sosial, karena membuka peluang usaha baru di bidang circular economy dan mendorong kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya daur ulang berbasis teknologi.

Pemanfaatan serat alam tidak hanya memperbaiki sifat mekanis filament, tetapi juga menghemat energi produksi dan mengurangi emisi karbon. Pencapaian ini mengantarkan Tim Teknik Mesin UNNES meraih Juara 1 pada ajang bergengsi Lomba Kreativitas dan Inovasi (Krenova) 2025 yang diselenggarakan Badan Riset dan Inovasi Daerah Kota Semarang.

Ke depan, riset ini memiliki prospek luas. Selain berkontribusi pada ekonomi sirkular dengan membuka peluang usaha berbasis teknologi daur ulang, penerapannya juga diharapkan mendorong kesadaran publik terhadap pentingnya pengelolaan limbah secara kreatif.

Tim peneliti berencana mengembangkan proses produksi yang lebih efisien dan menjajaki kemitraan dengan industri manufaktur untuk memperluas pemanfaatan filament ramah lingkungan ini di berbagai sektor.

Penelitian tersebut juga memberikan dampak SDGs pada point ke 9 yaitu (Industri, Inovasi, dan Infrastruktur) yang mana dengan adanya penelitian tersebut memberikan kesempatan untuk mahasiswa teknik UNNES untuk terus berinovasi dan berkreasi dalam menuangkan ide-ide cemerlang untuk mewujudkan Visi UNNES yaitu Universitas Pelopor Kecemerangan Pendidikan.
