The Communication Studies Student Association (HIMAIKOM) organized the DIALOG KOMUNIKA event featuring media practitioners from Tirto.id<\/a> and academics from the Communication Studies Department of Diponegoro University on Saturday, 23 May 2026, at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES). The event was held as part of the commemoration of World Press Freedom Day, which is observed annually on 3 May.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the major challenges currently faced by journalists is legal protection in carrying out journalistic practices, both in public spaces and in digital environments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe Press Law is lex specialis<\/em>, which means that journalistic work must be resolved under the specific provisions of Press Law No. 40\/1999 rather than under the general criminal provisions of the Criminal Code,\u201d said Baihaqi, a journalist from Tirto.id.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to him, this principle is often misunderstood by the general public. Therefore, public education is necessary to emphasize that journalistic work prioritizes factual and credible information free from intervention by any particular interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, limited public literacy frequently leads to misinterpretations of narratives circulating on social media. As a result, media credibility often becomes blurred within the framework of misinformation and misperception. To address this issue, strong digital literacy skills are essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Herlina Kusumaningrum, \u201cTransformative narratives serve as the foundation for strengthening data-based public opinion in the post-truth era.\u201d She explained that data-driven narratives should become the primary reference for the public in receiving and evaluating information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) has also established cooperation with Tirto.id as part of the sustainable implementation of academic collaboration with media practitioners through internship programs. This initiative aligns with the Higher Education Key Performance Indicators (IKU), which encourage off-campus learning activities in institutions and media industries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This partnership represents a collaborative effort between Tirto.id and FISIP to provide non-academic learning experiences alongside professional practitioners through student-centered activities involving student organizations within FISIP. Furthermore, the event contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 10, by promoting equal access to information, enhancing education, and encouraging public participation. It is expected to help society better understand various forms of narratives in the digital era and foster a more inclusive digital civilization.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
