Hundreds of students, lecturers, and academic staff of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP) wore batik attire in celebration of National Batik Day. The campus atmosphere was filled with a variety of batik patterns representing different regions of Indonesia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
One of them was Political Science lecturer Niswa Adlina Labiba, who wore a green batik featuring a traditional motif from Jepara, her hometown. \u201cIn a week, I usually wear batik two to three times, including when I teach,\u201d said the Political Science master\u2019s graduate from Diponegoro University at Building C7 FISIP, Sekaran, Gunungpati, Semarang, on Wednesday, October 2, 2025.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to Niswa, batik is a tangible example of local wisdom that has successfully adapted to the changing times. \u201cBatik proves that tradition can coexist with modernity through design innovation and the use of production technology. The role of academics is to preserve, develop, and critically examine the cultural dynamics of batik so that it remains relevant for future generations,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A similar sense of participation was also shown by FISIP History student Riski Nugraheni, who wore batik as an expression of respect for local culture. \u201cNational Batik Day is a moment to preserve the nation\u2019s cultural heritage,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
National Batik Day was officially established by the government on October 2, 2009, following UNESCO\u2019s recognition of Indonesian batik as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. Since then, every October 2 has been commemorated as a moment to reaffirm national pride and commitment to preserving the batik tradition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
