Monash University, Australia<\/strong> \u2013 October 16, 2024 \u2013 Prof. Dr. Edy Purwanto, Dean of the Faculty of Education and Psychology (FIPP) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), served as a guest lecturer at Monash University. He presented “The Contribution of a Sense of Belonging to Student Wellbeing & Mental Health: A Study at UNNES, Semarang, Indonesia,” based on collaborative research by FIPP UNNES researchers Rahmawati Prihastuty, Yuli Kurniawati S, and Miftahul Najah. The study highlighted that a sense of belonging significantly enhances students’ psychological wellbeing and mental health at UNNES.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prof. Edy emphasized that students who feel accepted within the university environment exhibit better mental health, leading to improved academic performance and social interactions. The research suggests fostering inclusivity and diversity on campus to achieve this. Additionally, he underscored the importance of social support from peers, lecturers, and the university, especially post-pandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture attracted Monash University lecturers and students interested in student wellbeing and mental health. The interactive discussion with Prof. Edy facilitated a deeper understanding of creating inclusive, supportive educational environments.
