The Faculty of Languages and Arts (FBS) at Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has officially welcomed 15 students from Fujian Polytechnic Normal University (FPNU), China, to participate in a semester-long credit transfer program at the Indonesian Literature Study Program. This marked another significant step for the faculty in expanding its global academic footprint.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The welcoming ceremony, held on September 4, 2026, at the Sekaran campus, served as a powerful symbol of the strong educational ties between Indonesia and China. The event was graced by the Vice Rector II of UNNES, who also serves as the Acting Dean of FBS, Prof. Dr. Heri Yanto, MBA., Ph.D. In a heartfelt ritual that has become a hallmark of the university’s hospitality, he symbolically presented the official UNNES alma mater jacket to a representative of the FPNU students, signifying their formal acceptance into the wider university community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In his address, Vice Rector II expressed profound appreciation for the trust placed in UNNES by FPNU. He emphasized that the reception of these international students transcends mere administrative routine, reflecting the university\u2019s deeper commitment to cultivating an inclusive and globally minded educational ecosystem. “We are truly delighted to welcome the students from Fujian Polytechnic Normal University. Their presence enriches the cultural diversity of our campus and broadens the horizons for our local students to learn about new cultures and perspectives. This is a long-term investment in developing superior and internationally competitive human resources,” stated Prof. Dr. Heri Yanto.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The symbolic jacket ceremony marked the beginning of a comprehensive academic and non-academic journey for the Fujian students. The Coordinator of the Indonesian Literature Study Program, Suseno, S.Pd., M.Pd., revealed that this exchange is a tangible realization of the strategic partnership between UNNES and FPNU. Notably, this is the second time FBS UNNES has hosted students from the Chinese institution, with the number growing significantly from six students in the previous semester to fifteen this time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“This program is a testament to our dedication to advancing global education. Having established a solid cooperative foundation in the previous semester, we are pleased to see this trust continue to grow. Currently, we are hosting 15 students, consisting of 2 males and 13 females,” Suseno explained on the sidelines of the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The curriculum for these visiting students, meticulously designed through intensive coordination between the two institutions, goes beyond standard language acquisition. While focusing on deepening their proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia, the courses are also structured to provide comprehensive insights into Indonesian culture, arts, and a distinctive academic experience within the UNNES environment. This initiative aligns closely with the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in advancing inclusive and equitable quality education that fosters lifelong learning opportunities for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Suseno further stressed that the program aims to deliver a multidimensional impact that extends far beyond the classroom. “We sincerely hope that these students will gain not only academic knowledge but also rich cultural experiences, everyday language practice, and, most importantly, lasting friendships between Chinese and Indonesian students,” he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
To realize this holistic vision, FBS UNNES has prepared more than just in-class instruction. The faculty has rolled out a dedicated student mentoring program and adopted the host family concept to ensure deep cultural immersion. Through these schemes, the FPNU students will have ample opportunities to engage directly with UNNES peers, explore their new surroundings, participate in cultural festivities, savor local culinary delights, and take part in a variety of communal activities that foster cross-cultural understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The sustainability and growing success of this initiative are expected to further solidify the international cooperation between the two institutions, not only in language education but also in broader student exchanges, deeper cultural introductions, and the expansion of productive academic networks between Indonesia and China.
