Universitas Negeri Semarang

Based on the Minister of Education and Culture’s Decree No. 278/O/1999 regarding to the organisation and governance of Universitas Negeri Semarang and No. 225/O/2000 regarding to the Statute of the Universitas Negeri Semarang, except for the Faculty of Education, the Faculty of Sport Education was transformed into the Faculty of Sport Sciences Universitas Negeri Semarang.  In line with the change, the names of the offered majors and courses also underwent several changes and additions in response to the development of IKIP Negeri Semarang becoming Universitas Negeri Semarang.

Established in 1965, Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) has kept on improving its performance and innovation both in academic and non-academic fields. These innovations will continue to be developed according to the vision in becoming a conservation university with international recognition.

As a conservation university, UNNES has committed in sustaining the environmental preservation, as well as culture and value preservation as the basic foundation for its students to become knowledgeable graduates and world leaders. UNNES focus its efforts on cultivating student-friendly environment for the development of critical thinking and effective application of theories learned in class, combining theories and practical ideas in various learning activities, close interaction with industry and in-depth research studies with state-of-the-art facilities and laboratories.

UNNES always strives to become highly competitive higher education institution. Furthermore, UNNES will be faced with a number of complex challenges both in the level of national and international which is in line with the ASEAN Economic Community programs. There are 14 (fourteen) priorities which are required for Innovation Acceleration: (1) capacity building, (2) excellent institution accreditation, (3)excellent study program accreditation,(4) international publication, (5) international curriculum, (6) preparation for becoming autonomous university, (7) Teachers’ education revitalization, (8) excellent integrated laboratory, (9) research-based conservation implementation, (10) excellent service, (11) human resources development, (12) student’s achievements both in national and international level, (13) students character building, and (14) implementation of collaboration with ASEAN partners. In the upcoming years, collaboration of all members of the university is strongly required to meet the challenges.

Currently, UNNES is a conservation university with eight (8) faculties, two (2) institutes, and five (5) centres of excellence which offer 64 undergraduate degrees, 22 master’s degrees and 5 doctoral degrees. In addition, UNNES strives on real works by establishing strong foundation in the development of education and profession in order to be the center of the development of limitless number of innovation in education and science.
