Cultural Resource Studies is a comprehensive study of human culture and the development of new methods for the protection, maintenance and use of these cultures as a part of global cultural resources.
This was stated by Prof Kagami Haruya, cultural anthropologist and founder of Kanazawa University’s Cultural Resources Studies program, at the General Lecture of Japanese Language Education Study Program Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES), Tuesday (4/23).
According to Prof Kagami Haruya, Cultural Resource is important as a cultural asset and national pride, even though it has the potential to cause friction with allied neighboring countries. In addition, Cultural Resource encourages the development of local creative industries with various innovations. He gave an example from his research site, Kampung Naga in West Java and Panglipuran Village in Bali.
The event which took place at the Faculty of Language and Arts also presented Maharani Dian Permanasari Ph.D., a doctor graduated from Kanazawa University as well as a student of Prof. Kagami Haruya. Bringing a paper entitled “Banana Plant in Culture and Design”, the holder of two banana-based product patents explained the philosophy of banana in Javanese society, its relation to local culture and its use in culture and development in creative industries such as bag making, textiles and walls soundproof accoustic.
In his speech the chairman of the General Lecture 2019 committee, Lisda Nurjaleka SS MPd MA, hoped that this event could help realize UNNES as a conservation and internationally reputed university.
