Undang-Undang Pendidikan Tinggi (UU PT) yang baru saja disahkan memberikan ruang besar bagi semua perguruan tinggi untuk berkembang, tak terkecuali perguruan tinggi swasta (PTS).

Ketua Komisi X DPR RI Agus Hermanto mengemukakan hal itu di sela-sela kunjungan kerja Komisi X DPR RI ke Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes), Senin (16/7).

Kabar gembira bagi PTS, dalam undang-undang ini pemerintah sudah memerhatikan dan mengatur hingga anggaran-anggaran untuk kegiatan penelitian. Di samping itu, dalam penerimaan mahasiswa baru di perguruan tinggi negeri (PTN) yang dilaksanakan oleh pemerintah dan bersifat gratis, kalangan PTS diperbolehkan bergabung.

Kesempatan besar juga diberikan kepada mahasiswa yang kurang mampu, yakni ada bantuan beasiswa perkuliahan yang sifatnya seperti pinjaman dan di kembalikan setelah lulus dan bekerja. “Jadi, tidak akan ada siswa kurang mampu namun memiliki kemampuan akademis pas-pasan yang tidak dapat melanjutkan kuliah,” tegas politisi Partai Demokrat itu.

“Sudah saya pelajari pasal demi pasal dalam UU PT ini. Saya tidak melihat satu pun pasal yang bertentangan dengan Undang-Undang Dasar 1945,” tandasnya.

Ikhwal kerja sama juga menjadi tinjauan dalam UU ini. Semua PT bisa bekerja sama dengan  semua perguruan tinggi, baik di dalam negeri maupun di luar negeri. Ia mengatakan, UU PT itu juga dimaksudkan untuk “mengerem” mahasiswa yang berkeinginan belajar ke perguruan tinggi luar negeri dengan cara memperkuat dan memperluas akses menempuh kuliah di Tanah Air.

Dalam kesempatan itu, Rektor  Unnes  Prof Sudijono Sastroatmodjo mengungkapkan kegembiraannya atas pengesahan UU PT, ketentuan itu akan menjadi satu dasar baku dalam melangkah dan membuat kebijakan bagi semua perguruan tinggi. “Harus ada perlakuan yang sama pada setiap universitas,” katanya.

Dengan pemberlakuan UU ini, pemerintah dapat membatasi praktik otonomi kampus, terutama yang menyangkut biaya.“Diharapkan masyarakat mendapat pelayanan sebaik-baiknya dalam hal biaya,” tandasnya seraya menjelaskan, PT tidak bisa menaikkan biaya yang tinggi karena pemerintah telah menganggarkan bantuan operasional perguruan tinggi.

    Judul artikelnya salah?..belum ada UU PT yang ada Rancangan UU PT yang sudah disahkan DPR, Presiden belum tanda tangan so RUU PT mbak..

    Operasional & attitudes kalangan PT perlu perobahan. Contoh, mhsw jangan lagi ditradisikan siapkan makanan, bingkisan utk dosen bila mau ujian disertasi, thesis, skripsi. Hal yg seperti ini sangat jelek, tidak akademik.
