Kawasan hutan gunung Ungaran dengan kontur berbukit dan lembah terjal menjadi habitat alami beragam satwa langka. Sebagian satwa tersebut, bahkan hampir punah. Karenanya perlu dilestarikan keberadaanya.

Habitat di gunung Ungaran sendiri sudah tak sepenuhnya alami. Sebagian sudah berubah menjadi pemukiman, sawah, hutan pinus, perkebunan kopi, hutan campuran, dan hutan primer. Alih fungsi hutan itu, justru bisa memperkaya keberagaman habitatnya.

Untuk melestarikan satwa langka tersebut, dijalin kerjasama antara Pemerintah Kabupaten (Pembab) Semarang dengan Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes). Kedua pihak bertekad melakukan konservasi bersama-sama demi pelestarian habitat dan satwa di dalamnya.

Komitmen itu diwujudkan dalam nota kesepahaman (memorandum of understanding/MoU). Perjanjian ditandatangani Bupati dr H Mundjirin ES SpOG dan Rektor Prof Dr Sudijono Sastroatmodjo Msi. MoU ditanandatangani Kamis sore (4/4) di Pendopo Kabupaten Semarang.

Hadir pada acara itu, Pembantu Rektor Bidang Pengembangan dan Kerjasama (PR IV) Prof Fathur Rokhman, PR III Prof Masrukhi, PR II Dr Wahyono, dan PR I Dr Agus Wahyudin. Juga dekan, camat, dan pejabat di lingkungan di Pemkab Semarang.

Kerjasama antara lain mencakup peningkatan peran perguruan tinggi melalui pelaksanaan tri darma perguruan tinggi di Kabupaten Semarang. Kemudian advokasi, sosialisasi dan pelatihan untuk pengembangan sumber daya manusia. Serta peningkatan dan pengembangan jaringan komunikasi dan informasi.

Selain itu, dilakukan pemberdayaan masyarakat dalam pendidikan, kesehatan, ekonomi, lingkungan. Serta program penghijauan serta konservasi lahan.

“Julang emas (Aceros undulatus) dan elang jawa (Spizaetus bartelsi) merupakan endemik di kawasan gunung Ungaran. Maka satwa-satwa ini perlu dilestarikan agar tidak punah,” kata Rektor Prof Sudijono Sastroatmodjo.

Selain burung, juga terdapat satwa lainnya. Seperti reptil, dan amfibi (percil jawa), kongkang jeram, katak pohon mutiara, dan katak endemik gunung Ungaran. Satwa-satwa tersebut telah menghilang sejak berpuluh tahun silam. Sekarang sangat dibutuhkan untuk penelitian dan menentukan keberadaan serta statusnya.

Dari penelitian dan pemantauan yang dilakukan Green Community Biologi FMIPA dan Badan Pengembangan Konservasi Unnes, sampai tahun 2012 tercatat keanekaragaman flora dan fauna. Yakni 121 jenis burung, 17 jenis amfibi, 53 jenis anggrek, 60 jenis kupu-kupu, 23 jenis reptil, dan lebih dari 15 jenis mamalia.

“Sebelumnya saya malah tidak tahu kalau burung julang emas berasal dari Pulau Jawa. Bahkan dari kawasan gunung Ungaran. Dulu saya kira burung itu hanya ada di kebun binatang.,” kata Bupati dr H Mundjirin ES SpOG terheran-heran.

“Inilah salah satu manfaat kerjasama dengan Unnes. Pemkab Semarang bisa memperoleh data yang diperlukan. Burung julang emas itu dilestarikan karena keberadaannya sudah berkurang,” kata dr Mundjirin.

    pengalaman saya sewaktu mendaki Gunung Ungaran di masa SMA dulu (start dari Bantir) itu di sekitar hutan pinus sering digunakan sbg sarana membuat sarang oleh Elang Jawa dan sering saya melihat mereka berkeliaran. namun jika julang Emas, saya pernah menemuinya ketika melewati sebuah pohon tumbang dan Julang Emas tersebut sedang bertengger di salah satu dahan dari pohon yang tumbang tersebut. lokasi kurang lebih 2 KM dari Camp di Bantir.
    BTW jika program ini membutuhkan relawan, maka saya sebagai orang yang sering menikmati keindahan GUnung Ungaran siap untuk membantu. Terima Kasih
