Tim Mahapala Unnes akhirnya berhasil mencapai  puncak Gunung  Elbrush pada ketinggian 5.642 meter di atas permukaan laut (dpl). Tim yang terdiri atas Manik Maya Waskitojati, Ma’rifah, dan Miftakhul Ulum itu sampai di puncak tertinggi di Eropa itu bertepatan dengan Hari Kemerdekaan Republik Indonesia, 17 Agustus 2011. Mereka sampai di sana pukul 16.45 waktu setempat.

Di tempat itu ketiganya mengibarkan bendera Merah Putih dan bendera Unnes. Demikian keterangan Khaerul Hamzah, ketua panitia, kepada unnes.ac.id, Jumat (19/8).

“Mas Khaerul, alhamdulillah berhasil, walaupun saya sempat kena mount sickness (penyakit di ketinggian karena kadar oksigen yang menipis dan tekanan yang semakin tinggi-Red) saat badai menerjang. Tapi dengan semangat dan kondisi yang masih memungkinkan untuk melanjutkan perjalanan, saya paksakan diri ini untuk terus maju mengibarkan Merah Putih, bendera Unnes, dan panji kebanggaan kita Mahapala Unnes. Waktu di puncak hanya lima menit untuk mengambil dokumentasi, dan tim harus kembali turun karena cuaca yang tidak kondusif. Sekarang sudah sehat, salam untuk teman-teman semua di Semarang. Wassalamualaikum,” kata Ma’rifah sebagaimana ditirukan Khaerul.

Ketika mengabarkan hal itu, ketiganya berada di Len’z Rocks, 4.600. Setelah itu, mereka berencana melanjutkan turun ke Nort camp 3.800 atau langsung ke First Base Camp 2.250. Dikabarkan pula, tim dalam kondisi baik, meski semalaman diterjang badai angin dan hujan salju sehingga jadwal ke puncak terpaksa mundur sampai pukul 12.00.

Manikmaya menyampaikan hal itu via telepon satelit kepada panitia di Semarang pada tanggal 17 Agustus 2011 pukul 22.19 WIB sesaat setelah berhasil mencapai puncak.

Perjalanan

Perjalanan menuju Len’z Rocks (4.600 mdpl) pada 16 Agustus ternyata tak semudah saat tim melakukan hal yang sama pada 15 Agustus untuk aklimatisasi. Tim diterjang badai dengan angin kencang dan hujan salju, namun dengan akhirnya bisa sampai di titik camp terakhir sebelum puncak, Len’z Rocks.

Setelah mendirikan camp dan beristirahat, seharusnya tim mendaki ke puncak pada 17 Agustus pukul 03.00 dini hari waktu setempat sesuai dengan jadwal. Namun mereka harus berkawan dengan badai yang setia menemani tim sampai pukul 09.00 lebih waktu setempat.

Setelah cuaca dirasa membaik, tim mulai mempersiapkan diri untuk melakukan pendakian ke puncak pukul 12.00 waktu setempat. Dengan langkah pasti dan perlahan, tim mulai menapaki meter per meter ketinggian terakhir di tanah tertinggi Eropa itu . Meski badai belum reda benar, tim tetap berjuang mencapai puncak Elbrush (5.642 mdpl) tepat pada Hari Ulang Tahun Ke-66 Republik Indonesia.
