Air merupakan kebutuhan dasar bagi kehidupan manusia. Namun pesatnya perkembangan kota dan kurangnya kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya lahan terbuka bagi resapan air mengakibatkan di musim kemarau terganggunya siklus dan kelangkaan air.

Demikian dikatakan Prof Siti Sundari Miswadi pada orasi ilmiah  pada pengukuhan guru besar di auditorium kampus Sekaran, Kamis (7/7).

Pengukuhan oleh Rektor Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) Prof Sudijono Sastroatmodjo. Prof Siti Sundari Miswadi dikukuhkan sebagai Guru Besar dalam bidang Ilmu Kimia Lingkungan  dengan pidato pengukuhannya “Menyelamatkan Air Tanah Menggunakan Adsorben Alami dalam Upaya Konservasi Air” dan  Prof Supartono sebagai Guru Besar  dalam bidang Kimia Bioorganik (Memahami Keberadaan Antibiotika bagi Kehidupan Manusia)  keduanya di Fakultas Matematika dan Ilmu Pengetahuan Alam.

“ Untuk mengantisipasi krisis air pada musim kemarau salah satunya adalah dengan membuat adsorben lubang resapan biopori karena mudah dilakukan pada rumah yang tidak ada halamannya sekalipun,” kata Sundari.

Dia juga mengemukakan, “selain mudah dilakukan resapan biopori juga menjaga keseimbangan alam untuk memaksimalkan air yang meresap ke dalam tanah, dan dapat untuk membuat kompos alami dari sampah organik yang dapat dilakukan pada setiap rumah tangga,” katanya.

Prof Supartono mengatakan masalah infeksi adalah masih menjadi masalah kesehatan yang utama bagi masyarakat khususnya Indonesia baik dari strata yang paling rendah sekalipun sampai yang tinggi. Hal ini disebabkan oleh penggunaan antibiotika sebagai obat penyakit infeksi yang tidak teratur dari masyarakat itu sendiri. Kelompok antibiotika yang baik bagi pengobatan infeksi pada manusia adalah kelompok penisilin dan sefalosporin.

Dia, mencontohkan “orang disuruh dokter meminum antibiotika sesuai dengan anjurannya namun, orang tersebut menghentikan minum obat antibiotika dengan alasan badannya sudah tidak panas lagi. Ini memungkinkan munculnya bakteri-bakteri patogen yang menjadi resisten (tidak peka terhadap antibiotika lagi) sehingga muncul bakteri-bakteri patogen yang jenisnya lebih baru,” katanya.

“Munculnya bakteri-bakteri baru itu susah pengobatannya karena sudah kebal terhadap antibiotika, maka perlu dikembangkan antibiotika turunannya. Para peneliti terus mengembangkan turunan-turunan penisilin tersebut misalnya, amoksilin, metisilin, oksasilin ampisilin dan sebagainya,” kata Prof  Partono.

Rektor Unnes Prof Sudijono Sastroatmodjo mengemukakan penambahan dua guru besar baru di bidang Kimia ini akan memperkuat posisi Unnes dalam melakukan studi hasil kajian di bidang tersebut dan tolong diimplementasikan kepada masyarakat luas supaya mendapat informasi yang jelas.
