Program  Studi Pendidikan IPS Fakultas Ilmu Sosial (FIS) Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) menyelenggarakan kegiatan Seminar Nasional Pendidikan, Kamis (23/11) bertempat di Gedung C7 lantai 3 Fakultas Ilmu Sosial UNNES.

Kegiatan dibuka secara resmi oleh Dekan Fakultas Ilmu Sosial UNNES Drs Moh. Solehatul Mustofa MA yang didampingi oleh Koordinator Program Studi Pendidikan IPS Arif Purnomo SPd SS MPd dan Ketua Panitia Rudi Salam SPd MPd.

Seminar yang bertema “Isu-isu Mutakhir dalam Pembelajaran IPS” ini, diikuti oleh dosen, peneliti, praktisi pendidikan, dan mahasiswa dari seluruh Indonesia.

Dalam laporannya, Ketua Panitia Rudi Salam SPd MPd menjelaskan latar belakang penyelenggaraan Seminar Nasional Pendidikan tersebut.

“Guru merupakan suatu pekerjaan profesional, yang memerlukan suatu keahlian khusus. Karena keahliannya bersifat khusus, guru memiliki peranan yang sangat penting dan strategis dalam kegiatan pembelajaran yang akan menentukan mutu pendidikan suatu satuan pendidikan,” jelas Rudi.

Mahasiswa Pendidikan Ilmu Pengetahuan Sosial (PIPS), tambahnya, merupakan calon guru IPS yang juga diarahkan memiliki kompetensi  guru IPS. Sebagai calon guru IPS, mereka dituntut untuk memiliki kompetensi penguasaan akan isu-isu mutakhir dalam pembelajaran IPS. Harapnnya dengan penguasaan akan hal tersebut, dapat meningkatkan kompetensi keguruan.

Hadir sebagai narasumber, Guru Besar Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY) Prof Zamroni PhD dan Guru Besar Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) Prof Dr Wasino MHum yang dimoderatori oleh Dosen PIPS Khoirul Anwar SPd MPd.

Menurut Prof Zamroni PhD, isu-su mutakhir dalam pembelajaran IPS sangat diperlukan oleh seorang guru IPS.

“Guru IPS bertindak untuk memberikan pencerahan pada diri siswa dalam menghadapi perkembangan masyarakat dan mengajak para siswa untuk membiasakan diri melakukan pengamatan empiris. Hal tersebut, dapat dilakukan secara langsung atas kehidupan masyarakatnya, maupun secara tidak langsung mengamati lewat media massa, khususnya media elektronik. Selanjutnya dengan menghadirkan hasil pengamatan tersebut di ruang-ruang kelas,” jelas Prof Zamroni.

Selain itu, tambahnya, guru PIPS memiliki tanggung jawab untuk membuat siswa merasa perlu memahami dengan benar tentang apa dan bagaimana perkembangan yang terjadi di masyarakat.

“Sehingga dapat kita simpulkan bahwa the primary purpose of social studies is to help young people make informed and reasoned decisions for the public good as citizens of a culturally diverse, democratic society in an interdependent world,” pungkas Guru Besar Fakultas Ilmu Sosial UNY tersebut.

Kegiatan seminar berjalan dengan lancar dengan diikuti oleh antusias dan sikap proaktif peserta seminar.
