Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) kembali menyelenggarakan guest lecture di Gedung Bundar Dekanat FBS pada Senin (29/9) Kampus Sekaran, Gunungpati, Semarang.

Acara yang bertema “From Practice to Theory in English Language Teaching: the teacher as curriculum developer” mengundang pembicara Prof. Richard Kiely dari University of Southampton, Inggris.

Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh 200 peserta yang merupakan mahasiswa S1 dan dosen Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris. Selain itu, beberapa mahasiswa Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) dan guru pamong tampak hadir pada kegiatan tersebut.

Panitia kegiatan, Pasca Kalisa dan Alief Noor Farida, mengatakan guest lecture yang dimoderatori oleh Zulfa Sakhiyya ini berjalan lancar dan sangat interaktif karena antusiasme peserta yang sangat tinggi.

Selain itu, kegiatan ini menjadi wadah para guru dan calon guru untuk mengeksplor berbagai perspektifberkaitan dengan kurikulum dan situasi pembelajaran di Indonesia.

Dari berbagai pertanyaan kritis yang diajukan para peserta, Kiely menyimpulkan bahwa “Betapa pun pentingnya perubahan kurikulum yang terjadi di tingkat pemangku kebijakan, guru tetap memegang peranan yang penting karena di tangan merekalah pembelajaran itu terjadi.”

Kepada unnes.ac.id, Ketua Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris Dr Issy Yuliasri, mengemukakan bahwa dengan adanya guest lecture ini, yang dilakukan bersamaan dengan expo karya dosen Jurusan Bahasa dan Sastra Inggris dapat memberi manfaat untuk para guru dan calon guru serta bagi pembaharuan keilmuan.

“Semoga kerja sama baik ini bisa terus berlanjut untuk meningkatkan budaya dan kualitas akademik,” imbuhnya.
