Mahasiswa menaruh perhatian terhadap Indeks Pembangunan Manusia (IPM) Indonesia yang rendah, bahkan kalah jauh dari Malaysia dan Singapura. Padahal, anggaran peningkatan kualitas SDM Indonesia terhitung besar, yakni 269 triliun pada APBN 2013.

Dirilis United Nations Development Program (UNDP), IPM Indonesia tahun 2011 di urutan 124 dari 187 negara yang disurvei, dengan skor 0,617. Peringkat ini turun dari peringkat 108 pada tahun 2010. Di kawasan ASEAN, Indonesia hanya unggul dari Vietnam yang memiliki nilai IPM 0,593, Laos dengan nilai IPM 0,524, Kamboja dengan nilai IPM 0,523, dan Myanmar dengan nilai IPM 0,483.

Kekhwatiran mahasiswa mengemuka dalam sesi Talk Show acara 4 Pilar Goes to Campus, Senin (3/12) di Auditorium Unnes. Acara yang diselenggarakan Majelis Permusyawaratan Rakyat (MPR) dengan Universitas Negeri Semarang dihadiri anggota DPR Agus Hermanto dan Martri Agoeng, Rektor Unnes Sudijono Sastroatmodjo, komedian Gus Pur, dipandu Anya Dwinov dan Yana Indrawan. Ratusan mahasiswa dari berbagai fakultas hadir dalam acara tersebut.

Selain menyoroti IPM Indonesia, mahasiswa juga mengkhwatirkan kondisi tenaga kerja Indonesia (TKI) di luar negeri yang terlunta-lunta. Bahkan, fenomena Gangnam Style dan K-Pop sebagai representasi lemahnya daya tawar kebudayaan nasional terhadap kebudayaan asing juga tak luput dari perhatian.

Anggota Komisi X DPR RI Agus Hermanto mengapresiasi kekhawatiran tersebut sebagai bentuk kepedulian mahasiswa terhadap kondisi bangsa. “Mewabahnya Korean Pop adalah tantangan dalam membentengi dan melestarikan kebudayaan nasional,” kata politis Parta Demokrat tersebut. “Ini bagus. Berarti generasi muda saat ini semakin peduli terhadap kondisi bangsa,” lanjutnya.

Rektor Unnes Sudijono Sastroatmodjo berpendapat, besarnya anggaran pengembangan SDM belum ditopang daya dukung birokrasi. “Pencairand ana kerap terhambat, semangat untuk meningkatkan kualitas pendidikan belum diimbangu prosedur dan tata laksana yang konsisten,” katanya.

Perihal penguatan budaya bangsa, rektor yang baru saja menerima penghargaan sebagai Pelopor Menanam dari Presiden Republik Indoensia berpendapat, butuh proses panjang. Dimulai dari pembiasaan sampai kemudian melekat dalam tindakan. “Butuh teladan para pemimpin agar generasi muda mau memegang teguh nilai-nilai kebangsaan,” lanjutnya.
