Sebagai upaya dalam mewujudkan misi, Universitas Negeri Semarang (Unnes) telah menjadi tuan rumah bagi International Association for Translation and Intercultural Studies (IATIS) untuk mengadakan seminar internasional dengan tema “Translation and Cultural Identity”, Senin (25/3).

“Unnes telah menjadi tempat pertama bagi IATIS sebagai organisasi kelas dunia yang memberikan tempat bagi ahli bahasa dengan latar belakang negara dan ilmu yang berbeda untuk membahas isu tentang penerjemahan, multibahasa, dan komunikasi multikultural sebagai upaya menegaskan identitas budaya,” kata Presiden IATIS Prof Juliane House dalam jamuan makan di Gama Candi Senin malam.

Dalam kesempatan yang sama, Pembantu Rektor Bidang Pengembangan dan Kerja sama Unnes Prof Fathur Rokhman mengatakan bahwa upaya yang dilakukan IATIS sejalan dengan visi dan misi Unnes sebagai Universitas Konservasi. Konservasi yang Unnes tegakkan adalah konservasi lingkungan dan konservasi budaya yang juga meliputi bahasa.

Dr. Sebnem Susam-Saraeva (University of Edinburgh UK) dan Dr. Carol O’Sullivan (University of Portsmouth, UK) menjadi pembicara utama dalam workshop yang dihadiri oleh penerjemah dari berbagai negara, di antaranya dari Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Australia, Taiwan, Jerman, Brazil, Jepang, dan Kuwait.

“Workshop ini di harapkan akan memberikan kontribusi yang sikgifikan dalam menerjemahkan identitas budaya Indonesia,” tambah PR IV.

Dalam pertemuan yang berlangsung santai itu Prof Fathur Rokhman didampingi Dekan Fakultas Bahasa dan Seni (FBS) Prof Agus Nuryatin, Ketua Jurusan Bahasa Inggris Dr. Issy Yuliasri, dan pejabat FBS lainnya.
