Hingga hari ke-3 Pekan Olah Raga Mahasiswa Nasional (Pomnas) XII di Kepulauan Riau, Jawa Tengah berhasil mendulang 7 emas dan 5 perak. Hasil itu berbeda tipis dari raihan tim Daerah Khusus Ibu Kota (DKI) Jakarta yang mengumpulkan 8 emas, 3 perak, dan 6 perunggu.

Dari Batam Kepulauan Riau, reporter unnes.ac.id Sihono melaporkan, 7 medali emas itu diraih dari cabang atletik (4) dan renang (3). Sedangkan medali perah diperoleh dari catur (2), atletik (2), dan renang (1).

Dilaporkan pula, peringkat sementara ke-3 diduduki tim Provinsi Banten dengan 3 emas dan 1 perunggu, peringkat ke-4 Jawa Barat dengan 2 emas, 2 perak, dan 1 perunggu. Peringkat berikutnya, berturut-turut Sumatera Utara, Papua, Jawa Timur, Sumatera Barat, Sulawesi Selatan, dan Yogyakarta.

Pesta olahraga multievent dua tahunan untuk mahasiswa tingkat nasional itu diikuti 2.400 peserta dari 32 provinsi. Provinsi terbanyak mengirimkan atletnya adalah Sumatera Barat (Sumbar) dengan 220 orang, diikuti Jawa Timur 186 peserta, DKI Jakarta 179 peserta, Sumatera Selatan (Sumsel) 161 peserta. Tuan rumah, Provinsi Kepri hanya menurunkan 98 peserta. Bangka Belitung merupakan provinsi paling sedikit mengirimkan pesertanya, 13 orang.

Jawa Tengah sendiri mengirimkan 153 atlet dengan didampingi 36 pelatih yang berasal dari 23 perguruan tinggi negeri dan swasta. Mereka bertanding dalam 10 cabang olahraga, yakni bulutangkis, bola basket, renang, pencak silat, atletik, sepak takraw, bola voli, karate, futsal, dan catur.
