Kaitannya dengan agama, 95 % penduduk Polandia memeluk agama Katolik. Jadi konflik beragama jarang sekali ditemukan. Beda halnya dengan Indonesia yang memiliki berbagai jenis agama dan aliran kepercayaan. Indonesia sangat berbeda dengan Polandia dalam hal kehidupan keagamaan.

Hal tersebutlah yang dijelaskan oleh mahasiswa asing asal Polandia, Arkadiusz Jan Jodlowski yang tengah menempuh perkuliahan di Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) dengan skim Darmasiswa saat memandu diskusi dalam kegiatan International Discussion pada Kamis (23/11).

Tak hanya Arkadiusz Jan Jodlowski, kegiatan yang diselenggarakan oleh English and Research Community (ERC) Fakultas Ilmu Sosial ini juga menghadir tiga mahasiswa asing lainnya dari Filipina dan Slovakia.

Hadir sebagai pemantik diskusi, Dosen Jurusan Geografi UNNES Satya Budi Nugraha ST MT MSc dan Dosen Jurusan Sosiologi dan Antropologi Asma Luthfi SThI MHum dengan memberikan presentasi tentang isu multikultural, yang dimoderatori oleh Mahasiswa Berprestasi II UNNES 2017 Tubagus Fahmi.

Dalam laporannya, Ketua Panitia Annisa Maharani menjelaskan terkait topik diskusi yang dipilih dalam International Discussion kali ini.

“Kami mengangkat isu yang terkait dengan multikultural. Isu tersebut tengah hangat dan amat menarik untuk dikaji lebih mendalam. Harapannya, diskusi tak hanya berakhir pada kegiatan ini saja, tapi akan terus berlanjut dan menghasilkan luaran akademik yang dapat menjadi bahan kajian bagi mahasiswa maupun masyarakat umum,” jelas Annisa di tempat kegiatan Ruang Borobudur Gedung Prof Dr Retno Sriningsih Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (LP2M) UNNES.

Dosen Pendamping ERC Antari Ayuning Arsi SSos MSi berharap diskusi dapat membuka kepekaan sosial bagi peserta.

“Tema International Discussion kali ini sangat ‘sexy’ untuk menjadi topik diskusi. Diskusi nantinya akan membahas tentang keragaman, dan berbagai macam budaya yang ada dalam kehidupan masyarakat menyangkut nilai-nilai, sistem, kebiasaan, cara pandang, dan lain sebagainya,” jelasnya.

Selain menjadi kegiatan rutin tahunan ERC, tambah Arsi, kegiatan ini merupakan upaya ERC dalam mendukung internasionalisasi UNNES.

“Universitas Negeri Semarang bertekad mewujudkan internasionalisasi universitas pada tahun 2018. Untuk itu, 2018 dicanangkan sebagai tahun internasionalisasi. Melalui kegiatan ini, diharapkan mahasiswa Indonesia, Polandia, Filipina, dan Slovakia dapat bertukar gagasan dan sharing terkait tema yang diangkat,” pungkas Dosen Jurusan Sosiologi dan Antopologi itu.

Diskusi yang berlangsung dengan menggunakan bahasa inggris ini, berjalan dengan lancar dan penuh antusiasme dari peserta diskusi. Mereka bersikap proaktif dengan gagasan yang cerdas dan kritis dalam menyikapi isu multikultural.

Sebagai tambahan informasi, International Discussion merupakan rangkaian dari kegiatan ERC Festival. Selain International Discussion, ERC melalui ERC Festival juga menyelenggarakan dua kegiatan lainnya yakni, FIS English Debate Competition, dan Kompetisi Esai Nasional.
