Universitas Negeri Semarang (UNNES) tidak langsung berpuas diri setelah berhasil mendapatkan Akreditasi Institusi Perguruan Tinggi A. Sesuai dengan rekomendasi asesor dan Kementerian Riset, Teknologi dan Pendidikan Tinggi, UNNES gencar untuk meraih status PTN-Badan Hukum dan pemeringkatan internasional QS-Star. Dalam rangka percepatan langkah tersebut, UNNES berinisiatif belajar dari salah satu universitas terbaik di Indonesia yaitu Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB) pada hari Kamis (9/3) di Bandung. Tim percepatan PTN Badan Hukum UNNES melakukan kunjungan dinas di Kampus ITB dan disambut langsung oleh Wakil Rektor Bidang Akademik dan Kemahasiswaan, Prof. Ir. Bermawi Priyatna Iskandar, M.Sc.,Ph.D., Wakil Rektor Bidang Riset dan Inovasi dan Kemitraan, Prof. Dr. Ir. Bambang Riyanto Trilaksono dan Wakil Rektor Bidang Sumberdaya dan Organisasi, Prof. Dr. Irawati, MS. Dalam kesempatan ini Ketua Satuan Pengawas Internal ITB, Prof. Dr. Asep Gana Suganda, Ketua Satuan Penjamin Mutu, Dr. Pepen Arifin, Badan Pengelola Usaha dan Dana Lestari, Ir. Mary Handoko Wijoyo, M.Sc dan Direktur Eksekutif Pengelolaan Penerimaan Mahasiswa Prof. Mindriany Syafila, MS, Ph.D hadir untuk membagikan ilmunya pada bidang masing-masing.

Jumlah Mahasiswa ITB hanya 22.000 sedangkan jumlah dosen adalah 1300. Jumlah Prodi S1 di ITB 49 dan Prodi S2 sejumlah 52. Sudah ada beberapa prodi yang terakreditasi internasional yaitu dari JABEE, KAAB, RSC, ASIIN, AUN-QA dan ABET. Jumlah prodi yang sudah terakreditasi A mencapai 83%. Untuk menjaga kualitas yang berkesinambungan, pimpinan ITB secara rutin mengevaluasi diri dalam rapat rutin setiap hari Selasa. ITB pada prinsipnya hanya mau membuka prodi yang unggul dan diminati dunia. Saat ini, ITB sangat fokus pada rekognisi internasional. Banyak universitas di luar negeri ingin bekerja sama dengan ITB karena akreditasi yang didapat dari lembaga internasional menjadi magnet yang efektif. Langkah strategis ITB termasuk mengevaluasi Prodi dan Dosen setiap semester dengan menggunakan sistem portofolio.

Efek baik dari akreditasi internasional adalah laboratorium jadi lebih terjaga kondisi dan kualitasnya karena akreditasi dapat mendiagnosis kekurangan yang dimiliki lab. Untuk keluar dari comfort zone, dosen ITB harus sering diberikan tantangan baru secara akademis. Biaya yang dibutuhkan untuk memperbarui laboratorium sangat tinggi maka ITB harus kreatif dalam mencari pendanaan. Alumni ITB juga sangat aktif menyumbang bagi almamaternya. Salah satu konsekuensi yang tidak terhindarkan, ITB juga membuka sejumlah kelas internasional. Pemasukan dari kelas internasional dapat digunakan untuk membayar visiting Professor.

Tim Delegasi dari UNNES dipimpin langsung oleh Rektor UNNES, Prof. Dr. Fathur Rokhman, M.Hum. Tim delegasi UNNES terdiri atas Wakil Rektor Bidang Akademik, Kepala UPT Pusat Humas, Kepala dan Sekretaris Badan Penjamin Mutu, Ketua Senat, Kabiro BAKK, Kepala Unit Layanan Pengadaan dan Staf Rektor. Rektor menyampaikan apresiasi yang sebesar-besarnya pada pimpinan ITB yang telah membagikan ilmu yang begitu komprehensif. Rektor menyampaikan bahwa best practice yang ada di ITB akan ditransformasikan dalam bentuk rekomendasi kebijakan dan program bagi UNNES.
