“Apa semua orang di sini pakai sepeda motor?” Pertanyaan itu meluncur ringan dari mulut Rara Sato, mahasiswa Kanazawa University, Jepang yang sedang mengikuti Program Short Course of Environmental Conservation and Indonesian Culture (See-Conic).

Ia menanyakan itu setelah empat hari di Semarang dan melihat kendaraan roda dua lalu lalang memenuhi jalanan. Di Jepang, negerinya, negeri tempat sepeda motor dirintis produksinya, ia tak pernah mendapati pemandangan seperti itu.

“Saya bahkan tak bisa gunakan sepeda motor,” lanjutnya, seraya terkekeh.

Rara mengaku baru kali ini berkunjung ke Indonesia. Meski di negerinya ia punya teman dari Indonesia, ia merasa benar-benar mengenal Indonesia sekarang.

“Saat baru mendarat di Indonesia saya langsung surprise. Kemarin kami diajak menari. Ternyata sulit juga menarikan tari tradisional Indonesia,” lanjutnya, kembali terkekeh.

Lain Rara lain Malang Cilangasan. Mahasiswa program master di University of Malaya ini sudah enam kali ke Indonesia. “Jakarta, Jogja,” ia menyebut dua kota yang pernah ia kunjungi.

Tentu saja ia tak terlalu surprise melihat kondisi alam dan kebiasaan hidup orang Indonesia. Lebih-lebih, akunya, ia sudah mengunjungi beberapa negara Asia Tenggara sebelumnya.

“Saya tidak suka traveling, tapi saya ingin terus mengunjungi negara-negara lain. Kelak saya pengin bekerja di Thailand atau Filipina,” terang Malang, Kamis (22/8) sore.

Indonesia, bagi Malang, negara yang besar dan indah. Ia tak menutup kemungkinan akan bekerja di negara ini setelah merampungkan studinya. Hanya saja, “Saya tak berminat menetap seumur hidup di sebuah tempat. mungkin lima tahun di satu negara, lima tahun lagi ke negara lain.”

Rara Sato dan Malang adalah dua dari 16 mahasiswa asing peserta program See-Conis 2013. Program ini digagasa Unnes untuk memperkenalkan visi universitas konservasi dan kebudayaan Indonesia pada mahasiswa asing.

Melalui program ini, Rektor Unnes Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum, berharap Unnes akan lebih dikenal di mancanegara. “Kerja sama ini kami harapkan dapat membantu Unnes untuk menuju world class university,” tandasnya.

Mereka juga dipersilakan menggunakan fasilitas laboratorium di semua fakultas di Unnes secara gratis. “Segenap dosen dan karyawan akan menyambut mereka dan memberikan fasilitas yang terbaik,” ujarnya.

Menurut rencana, mereka akan tinggal di Indonesia dan mengikuti program selama dua pekan.

    Di Indonesia dijadikan objek penjualan sepeda motor jepang. Akibatnya transporyasi publik tidak berkembang. Konservasi hanya supervisial saja.

    Bersama-sama kita jadikan Unnes menjadi host yang baik bagi mahasiswa asing. Exposure terhadap budaya dan konservasi dapat kita mulai dari kontak individu maupun institusi. Memang kita bukan bangsa yang sempurna namun begitu kita punya potensi untuk menjadi bagian dari masyarakat global. Siapa tahu dengan kehadiran mereka di tengah2 kita, maka kita akan semakin “rikuh” pada tamu kita dan semakin giat melestarikan lingkungan dan budaya kita.
