Indonesian Language Department of Faculty of Language and Art of Universitas Negeri Semarang signed an agreement with Leiden University and Utrecht University, two leading universities in the Netherlands, on Friday (3/3). The signature was given by the Head of Indonesian Langguage Department, Dr Haryadi M.Pd, Wikker Jansen from Leiden University, and RW Timmermans from Utrecht University.
The cooperation of the universities focuses on Teaching Indonesian Language for Foreigners (BIPA).
As countries with the long-term historical relationship, Indonesian and Dutch are closely related. This relationship has made Indonesian language become one of the most popular languages in Netherland.
The Head of Indonesian Literature program, Uum Qomariyah SS MHum, said, Indonesian language is one of ten the most popular languages in the world. Indonesian language enthusiasts are increasing time to time. Indonesian language majors have also been opened in a number of countries.
Meanwhile, Vice Dean of Academic Field of Faculty fo Language and Arts, Prof Dr M Jazuli, hope that the cooperation in BIPA’s imlementation can trigger academic relations of citizens across the borders. He encouraged the students to build the widest possible academic range.
