Tim mahasiswa  Universitas Negeri Semarang
meraih juara II dalam gelaran Konferensi Ilmuan Muda Indonesia (KIMI) MIPA
untuk Negeri 2012.

Kegiatan tersebut diselenggarakan FMIPA Universitas Indonesia, belum lama ini. Dalam
kesempatan itu, ribuan ilmuwan muda dari berbagai universitas di Indonesia.

Mahasiswa Unnes itu adalah Andri Fitriani dari Pendidikan Biologi dan Aji Purnomo program studi Teknologi Pendidikan. Keduanya menang dalam subtema
energi kategori presentasi oral dengan judul karya “Pendayagunaan Sampah Buah Tanjung
(Mimusops elengi) sebagai Energi Alternatif Masa Depan yang Ramah Lingkungan”.

Kepada Unnes.ac.id, Andri Fitriani menuturkan, dipilihnya judul tersebut karena saat ini
sedang terjadi krisis energi, dan bioetanol merupakan salah satu energi alternatif yang paling
diunggulkan untuk menggantikan energi fosil. “Bioetanol buah tanjung ini memiliki berbagai
keunggulan, di antaranya buah tanjung merupakan buah dari tanaman penghijauan yang
selama ini hanya sebagai sampah, berserakan dipinggir-pinggir jalan,” katanya, Kamis (25/10).

Tak Kenal Musim

Selain itu, menurut Andri, buah tanjung sering tak termanfaatkan. “Di sisi lain buah ini tidak
mengenal musim dan cepat berbuah sehingga kontinuitas bahan baku sangat terjamin serta
bisa didapatkan dengan gratis karena belum memiliki nilai ekonomi,” tandasnya.

Tanaman peneduh pinggir jalan ini juga mudah hidup dan tidak memerlukan perawatan
khusus. “Bioetanol buah tanjung diindikasikan dapat mengungguli bioetanol molase atau tetes
tebu yang sekarang ini menjadi bahan bakar E100 di negara Brazil, karena kadar etanol hasil
fermentasinya lebih tinggi daripada tetes tebu itu sendiri,” katanya.

Ajang KIMI MIPA untuk Negeri ini terbagi atas tiga subtema yaitu energi, pangan, dan
pendidikan. Sebagai seleksi awal para ilmuwan muda diwajibkan mengirimkan abstrak kepada
panitia. Dari 525 abstrak yang telah diterima, panitia dipilih 90 abstrak terbaik yang berhak
mempresentasikan hasil karyanya. Masing-masing tema dipilih 30 abstrak dengan rincian 20
abstrak presentasi oral dan 10 abstrak presentasi poster.

“Berbekal keyakinan, percaya diri, serta prototipe yang meyakinkan, kami berusaha tampil
maksimal. Dan hasilnya, kami mampu meyakinkan dewan juri, bahkan mengalahkan rekan-
rekan dari universitas lain yang telah mendapatkan investor dari Singapura dan Jepang,” kata
Andri.

Optimalkan Potensi

Aji berharap, melalui Unit kegiatan Mahasiswa (UKM) maupun kegiatan kemahasiswaan
lainnya, mahasiswa dapat mengoptimalkan potensi diri untuk dapat berprestasi di jalurnya
masing-masing.

“Yang terpenting dari semua itu adalah memberikan pengalaman secara mental dan memberi
kesempatan mereka di berbagai ajang di semua level sehingga mahasiswa dapat kuat secara
psikologis, dan potensi diri dapat diraih secara optimal,” pungkasnya.

Alhamdulillah Tim UNY Yogyakarta juga berhasil menorehkan prestasi di KIMI 2012 dengan memperoleh Juara 2 dan Juara 3 subtema bidang Pangan kategori Oral Presentasi dan Juara 1 Subtema Bidang Pendidikan kategori Poster. selamat dan tetap selalu berkarya dan berprestasi. smgat. man jadda wa jada
