Unit Kegiatan Mahasiswa Rekayasa Ilmu Pengetahuan dan Teknologi Universitas Negeri Semarang (UKM Riptek Unnes) akan menjadi tuan rumah Global Game Jam (GGJ), 24-26 Januari 2014.

GGJ merupakan event berkumpulnya beberapa orang untuk membuat satu atau lebih game dalam waktu yang relatif singkat. Biasanya 1- 2 hari. Inti dari game jam adalah mewujudkan ide dalam waktu relatif singkat. Dari sini dicari ide yang benar-benar unik dan bisa diwujudkan secara cepat.

GGJ yang sebelumnya dilaksanakan di tujuh kota besar (Jakarta, Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Bali, Bandung, dan Depok) ini terbuka untuk game developer sedunia. Seperti penyelenggaraan di kota-kota lainnya, GGJ Semarang ini juga diselenggarakan selama 48 jam penuh, mulai Jumat 24 Januari 2014 pukul 15.00 hingga Minggu, 26 Januari 2014 pukul 18.00.

Siapa pun yang berada di Semarang dan sekitarnya bisa mengikuti Global Game Jam Semarang ini, baik yang sudah profesional, amatir, newbie, senior, laki-laki, maupun perempuan, yang penting ingin terlibat dalam kegiatan game jam selama dua hari penuh ini. Peserta diutamakan perseorangan, karena nantinya pembentukan tim akan dilakukan di tempat penyelenggaraan. Untuk fasilitas, panitia hanya menyediakan tempat saja, jadi peserta harus membawa alat masing-masing untuk mengembangkan game, seperti laptop dan tablet. Pihak panitia juga menyediakan Wi Fi di lokasi, namun direkomendasikan juga untuk membawa modem untuk berjaga-jaga.
