Kepala SMA Negeri 4 Semarang Drs H Totok Widyarto MSi menyampaikan sejumlah saran agar mahasiswa Praktik Pengalaman Lapangan (PPL) Unnes memiliki performa yang lebih baik.

Saran ini Totok sampaikan kepada Rektor Prof Dr Fathur Rokhman MHum saat memonitor mahasiswa PPL ke sekolah yang beralamat di Jalan Karangrejo, Banyumanik, itu.

Menurut Totok, mahasiswa PPL sebaiknya dibekali dengan kompetensi di kepramukaan. Keterampilan ini diperlukan karena dalam Kurikulum 2013 ekstrakurikuler pramuka diwajibkan. Adapun guru yang menguasai kepramukaan, katanya, belum proporsional dengan jumlah siswa.

“Ada ratusan siswa yang mengikutik kegiatan, tapi kami hanya memiliki 3 guru yang berkualifikasi. Tentu sangat baik kalau mahasiswa dapat menjalankan kegiatan ini. Paling tidak telah lulus kursus mahir dasar,” katanya.

Selain itu, Totok menambahkan, guru PPL juga perlu memiliki keterampilan di bidang teknologi informasi (TI). Keterampilan di bidang TI dinilai Totok sangat penting dalam proses pembelajaran.

Di luar dua saran itu, Totok menyarankan agar setiap calon guru terus belajar. Dunia pendidikan terus berubah dari waktu ke waktu. Agar dapat menjalankan tugas dengan baik, guru perlu bernegosiasi dengan perubahan tersebut.

Menanggapi itu, Rektor menyampaikan bahwa PPL merupakan skema penempaan calon guru. Sebagai praktikan ia mengakui ada sejumlah kekurangan yang ada pada mahasiswa PPL. Oleh karena itu, ia menymapaikan terima kasih kepada para kepala sekolah dan guru pamong yang penuh perhatian membimbing mahasiswa.

“Profesi guru semakin penting dalam kehidupan kita. Ini tentu harus diimbangi dengan peningkatan kualitas. Di Unnes, kami juga akan terus berbenah meningkatkan komptensi mahasiswa agar bisa menjadi guru professional,” katan profesor sosiolinguistik ini.
