Pendidikan karakter perlu mengedepankan nilai menghormati, menghargai, dan mencintai pada diri anak. Tanpa ketiga hal itu, upaya untuk memperbaiki bangsa ini dari aspek mental, akan sia-sia belaka.

Hal itu diingatkan oleh Dekan Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan (FIP) Unnes Hardjono MPd saat membuka Seminar Pendidikan Karakter di gedung olah raga PGSD FIP Unnes UPP Tegal, Rabu (15/6). Seminar bertema “Peran Tua dan Guru dalam Membangun Karakter Anak” itu menghadirkan Rektor Universitas Pancasakti (UPS) Tegal Prof Dr Tri Jaka Kartana dan Ketua Jurusan Pendidikan Luar Sekolah FIP Unnes Dr Fakhrudin sebagai pembicara.

“Perbaikan kondisi bangsa ini memang harus kita mulai dari anak-anak, sebelumnya segalanya menjadi terlambat. Untuk itu, kita harus menanamkan pada diri mereka 3M: menghormati, menghargai, dan mencintai,” kata Hardjono.

Menurutnya, ketiga hal tersebut tidak akan terwujud jika penenman berhenti pada ranah kognitif saja. “Sebagai nilai, tentu saja tiga hal itu tidak boleh dihafal atau dimengerti saja, tetapi lebih dari itu dipraktikkan lewat sikap dan tindakan nyata dengan modal keteladanan dari para pendidik,” katanya dalam seminar dalam rangka Semarak Bulan Pendidikan itu.

Dalam seminar yang diikuti lebih dari 300 mahasiswa, guru/dosen, dan pemerhati pendidikan itu,  Prof Tri Jaka Kartana mengemukakan, kondisi sebuah negara merupakan indikator perkembangan budaya bangsanya. “Perkembangan budaya bangsa merupakan cerminan kemajuan pendidikan yang berlangsung di masyarakatnya,” katanya.

Dikemukakan pula, Kondisi bangsa saat ini sangat memprihatinkan, antara lain ditandai oleh degradasi moral/kepribadian dan kecurigaan terhadap proses pendidikan. “Pendidikan harus diyakini sebagai ibadah kepada Tuhan yang Maha Esa, character building, proses perubahan perilaku, baik pada diri individu, kelompok maupun organisasi, dan perwujudan manifestasi cita-cita tujuan Indonesia merdeka,” katanya.

Untuk bisa mengatasi hal itu, lanjut dia, pendidik  harus memiliki landasan dan wawasan kependidikan, kemandirian, kreatif, inovatif, mampu memimpin diri sendiri dan sehat supaya bisa berkarakter dan bisa mengembangkan karakter pada peserta didik.

Adapun Dr Fakhrudin berpendapat, karakter bisa diubah dan dikembangkan. “Awalnya dari keluarga sebagai pendidikan pertama dan utama. Karena itu, orang tua harus benar-benar menjadi teladan bagi anak  sebagai model (modelling), pendampingan dalam melihat TV dan aktivitas dan meletakkan nilai-nilai dasar sopan santun, perilaku, dan kebenaran. Terutama ketika anak mengalamai masa-masa keemasan (golden age).”

    kita harus memulai, belum terlamabat. menarik melihat kasus di surabaya yag hangat…tentang tersanderanya KEJUJURAN, orang benar–jujur malah diusir di komunitasnya. Negeri ini mulai aneh…yg “seolah memberi tontonan buruk” bukan keteladanan yg memuliakan. Maka FIP Unnes harus berani memulai untuk, membangun Keadaban Publik baru yg berasal dari nilai-nilai budaya lama yg membanggakan. Selamat berkarya….Tuhan Beserta Kita. Amin

    penanaman pendidikan karakter sejak dini memang hal yang harus dilakukan bagi semua orang tua kepada anaknya. Tujuannya adalah untuk membentuk karakter pribadi anak yang bermoral dan beretika. Namun sayangnya masih banyak orang tua sekarang yang belum sadar dan tidak tahu akan hal ini. bahkan para pendidik sekarang pun masih banyak yang tidak mengajarakan karakter bagi siswa maupun mahasiswanya.
