SEKOLAH dasar yang berlokasi di puncak bukit itu harus dicapai melalui perjalanan darat selama 2,5 jam dari Bandar udara AA Bere Tallo, Kabupaten Belu, Nusa Tenggara Timur. SD yang berlokasi di perbatasan Indonesia dengan Timor Leste itu hanya bisa dicapai menggunakan oto, sebuah kendaraan bak terbuka dengan atap terpal pada bagian belakangnya.

Ya, jalan untuk menuju SD K Tahon, Desa Makir, Kecamatan Lamaknen, Kabupaten Belu, Nusa Tenggara Timur, itu tidaklah mudah, terlebih ketika hujan turun. Separuh dari perjalanan darat harus melewati jalan yang berbatu karang dengan kontur jalan berliku dan menanjak. Namun, derasnya hujan dan kondisi lapangan sekolah yang becek tidak menyurutkan ratusan siswa SD tersebut untuk mengikuti berbagai kegiatan yang diseleggarakan Sarjana Mendidik di Daerah Terdepan, Terluar, dan Tertinggal (SM3T) Universitas Negeri Semarang, Jumat 27 Mei 2016. Sebanyak 21 alumnus kampus berjuluk Universitas Konservasi ini ditugaskan sejak Agustus 2015 di Kabupaten Belu.

Tim Monitoring dan Evaluasi SM3T Unnes Angkatan V Kabupaten Belu yang terdiri atas Wakil Rektor Bidang Perencanaan dan Kerja Sama Prof Sukestiyarno PhD dan Kepala Lembaga Penelitian dan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat Prof Totok Sumaryanto MPd, disambut hangat dengan tarian kreasi siswa yang membentuk formasi SM3T. Setelah tari usai dibawakan di bawah hujan yang turun, siswa mengalungkan kain selempang khas daerah setempat berjuluk tais dan ikat kepala destar sebagai tanda penghormatan. Alat musik teberai, yang mirip jimbe berukuran kecil, juga diserahkan kepada tim sebagai bentuk cendera mata.

Kepala SD K Tahon, Stanis Loe Mela, mengatakan kehadiran dua peserta SM3T di sekolahnya sangat membantu proses pembelajaran. Mereka adalah Putri Irma Suryani (alumnus Pendidikan Biologi) dan Maria Eka Wijayanti (alumnus Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris). Kehadiran mereka tidak hanya mengampu pelajaran dan menjadi guru kelas, namun turut serta membantu berbagai kegiatan dan mengampu ekstrakurikuler di sekolah yang memiliki lima guru PNS dan enam guru honorer itu.

“Ini pengalaman baru kami. Bapak dan ibu guru yang datang juga mengajar pramuka dan les sore. Kami berharap di sekolah mereka terus ada di tahun-tahun depan,” kata Stanis. Ia menjelaskan, meski di tengah keterbatasan, mereka mengajar dengan metode dan cara mengajar yang kreatif. Anak kerap diajak keluar kelas untuk belajar tentang sekitar dan menggunakan alam sebagai media pembelajaran.

Tak hanya media pembelajaran, Stanis juga mengakui jika sekolahnya sangat kekurangan buku ajar. “Kami sangat kekurangan buku. Hanya ada beberapa buku dan itu pun untuk pegangan guru, tidak banyak,” kata pria yang tinggal satu kompleks dengan sekolah itu. Namun demikian, para peserta SM3T kini sudah bisa mengajak anak-anak untuk belajar pada malam hari karena sejak tiga bulan lalu listrik sudah mengalir di desa tersebut. “Waktu bapak ibu guru SM3T ke sini, belum ada listrik.”

Stanis bahkan mengatakan siap menerima berapa pun guru yang bakal ditempatkan di sekolahnya. Sarjana baru yang berasal dari Pulau Jawa, menurut dia, memiliki inovasi dalam hal pembelajaran di kelas. “Kami harap semakin banyak anak kami yang bisa kuliah di Jawa, setelah itu pulang dan membangun daerahnya,” kata dia.

Semangat untuk “menyalakan lilin dalam gelap” juga ada pada setiap peserta SM3T lainnya. Alumnus Pendidikan Geografi, Risma Ananda Putra, yang bertugas di SD Hanowai, Kecamatan Lamaknen, tidak hanya mengajar sesuai bidang ilmunya. “Karena sekolah kekurangan guru, saya juga mengajar IPA, IPS, dan olahraga,” kata pria yang akrab disapa Nanda itu.

Di sekolahnya yang berjarak tempuh 2,5 jam perjalanan dari Kabupaten Belu, hingga kini belum terdapat aliran listrik. Sinyal telepon seluler pun tidak menjangkau daerah itu. Untuk penerangan pada malam hari, selain menggunakan pelita, warga memanfaatkan panel listrik tenaga surya.

Nanda pun tak kurang akal karena keterbatasan media pembelajaran atau ketiadaan LCD seperti kebanyakan dimiliki sekolah di Pulau Jawa. “Waktu mengajar saya mengajak siswa untuk keluar kelas. Misalnya, mengajar IPA dan mengenalkan akar umbi-umbian, maka saya langsung mengajak mereka mencari tanaman itu,” katanya.

Prof Sukestiyarno PhD mengatakan guru yang mengajar di garis depan negeri memberi pelita harapan bagi dunia pendidikan di Tanah Air. Ia menyebut permasalahan di daerah 3T terkait pendidikan sangatlah kompleks, mulai dari ketidaksesuaian lulusan dengan matapelajaran yang diampu, sarana dan prasarana, hingga akses jalan menuju sekolah yang sulit. “Tidak hanya mengajar, para peserta SM3T ikut serta mengurai benang kusut masalah pendidikan itu,” ujarnya.
