Teman sebaya berperan sebagai sahabat yang baik untuk membantu menyelesaikan masalah yang dihadapi teman lain. Namun, hal ini bukan berarti dapat mengganti posisi konselor maupun guru Bimbingan Konseling (BK) di sekolah.

“Hal tersebut dikarenakan dalam peer counseling, seorang peer hanyalah dilatihkan teknik dasar dalam membantu individu dalam memecahkan suatu masalah. Belum mencapai pada teknik yang spesisifik,” kata Dr Suwarjo Raharjo MSi, ahli Peer Counseling dari Universitas Negeri Yogyakarta (UNY). Dalam kesempatan itu, Dr Suwarjo menjadi pembicara dalam Seminar Optimaliasasi Layanan Konseling Melalui Konseling Peer to Peer (Sebaya), yang diselenggarakan oleh himpunan mahasiswa (Hima) Jurusan Bimbingan dan Konseling Fakultas Ilmu Pendidikan (FIP) Universitas Negeri Semarang, Sabtu (24/3).

Dr Sujarwo mengungkapkan, keberadaan “konseling sebaya” sangatlah dibutuhkan. Terutama dalam membantu kinerja konselor ataupun guru BK di sekolah. “Setiap peer nantinya dilatihkan untuk dapat mempunyai berbagai keterampilan sebagai modal utama dalam pemberian bantuan layanan konseling,” kata Doktor yang juga Pembantu Dekan Bidang Kemahasiswaan itu.

Dia menyebutkan, berbagai keterampilan itu adalah attending, empati, merangkum, bertanya, dan perilaku genuine. Selain itu asertif, konfrontasi, dan pemecahan masalah. Semua hal itu menurutnya menjadi bekal utama dalam pemberian bantuan layanan konseling. “Minimal untuk dapat menjadi pendengar yang baik sebagai seorang sahabat yang baik,” katanya, pada seminar yang diikuti tak kurang dari 50 peserta dari Jurusan BK dari UPS Tegal, UNS Solo, Univet Sukoharjo, UMK Kudus, IKIP Veteran Semarang, Program Pascasarjana Unnes, serta guru.

Dalam laporannya, Ketua Panitia Muhammad Irawan Syah menyampaikan bahwa melalui kegiatan ini, diharapakan peserta dapat langsung mempraktikkan tahapan dalam peer counseling. “Sengaja kami membatasi jumlah peserta supaya kegiatan kebih efektif,” ujarnya.

Sedangkan Ketua Hima Jurusan BK FIP Unnes Zakki Nurul Amin mengungkapkan, peer counseling merupakan salah satu alternatif layanan yang dapat dilakukan oleh guru BK di sekolah untuk mengoptimalkan layanan di tengah-tengah wacana dan ekspektasi yang diberikan kepada guru BK.

Sekretaris Jurusan BK FIP Unnes Kusnarto Kurniawan MPd Kons mengajak peserta dapat menggali ilmu yang didapat dari narasumber untuk selanjutnya diaplikasikan sebaik-baiknya di lapangan. Hal itu karena peer (teman sebaya) merupakan salah satu significant others berpengaruh dalam perkembangan optimalisasi setiap peserta didik yang merupakan sasaran layanan dalam bimbingan dan konseling. “Kegiatan ini sekaligus simulasi praktik profesi sebagai puncak dari trilogi profesi dasar keilmuan. Selain itu substansi profesi makin terasah dan dikuasai,” pungkasnya.

  1. Tantangan dunia pendidikan saat ini adalah menurunnya motivasi siswa dalam belajar. Anak yang kurang motivasi di kelas terkadang menjadi virus bagi teman lainnya. Orang tua banyak yang tidak sanggup mengendalikan anaknya sendiri. Apalagi guru???? Tantangan Guru BK di masa mendatang dalam mengatasi siswa yang bermasalah semakin berat. Hai para calon guru… (khususnya guru BK), sudah siapkah Anda terjun ke dunia nyata???
